Sikandar Release: Gaiety Galaxy Owner Slams Salman Khan Over Rashmika Mandanna’s Small Role: What Was...

Sikandar, starring Salman Khan, experienced a rocky box office journey with mixed reviews and audience dissatisfaction. Its collection reached Rs 90 crore in India, but faced criticism for plot choices and character arcs.

Sikandars Box Office Struggles And Criticism

Released on March 30, Salman Khan's latest film "Sikandar" has sparked significant debate among audiences and critics alike. Despite its high expectations and a captivating storyline, the movie's performance at the box office tells a different story. By the end of its first week, "Sikandar" managed to rake in a total India net collection of Rs 90 crore across all languages. However, the film's momentum seemed to wane, with its fifth-day earnings marking only Rs 5.75 crore. This downturn has been attributed to a variety of factors, including online leaks and mixed reviews from critics. The global market has shown more promise, with the film's worldwide collection reaching Rs 123.75 crore, bolstered significantly by an overseas contribution of Rs 88.75 crore.

"Sikandar," directed by A.R. Murugadoss, is not just a run-of-the-mill action film. It boasts a dynamic cast comprising Kajal Aggarwal, Suniel Shetty, Sathyaraj, Prateik Babbar, and Sharman Joshi. The narrative centers around Salman's character, Sikandar, who embarks on a quest for justice while safeguarding three individuals who have received organ donations from his late wife. Despite its star power and intriguing plot, the film has encountered obstacles, among them being criticisms about certain creative choices.

One such criticism came from Manoj Desai, the owner of Gaiety Galaxy, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the film, particularly the early demise of Rashmika Mandanna's character. In a candid interview with Vickey Lalwani, Desai conveyed the audience's disappointment and questioned the rationale behind such a decision, quoting trade analyst Komal Nahta, "'What was the need to kill the heroine so early on in the film?' 'What complex did you have?' And then, when you take the film forward, if you feel something isn't right… aap kyu asal mein Salman Khan dikhte nahi ho (Why doesn't the real Salman Khan come forth in the film?)"

Despite the backlash, Desai's remarks underline a broader concern regarding audience engagement and narrative choices. "I know you will feel bad because of my interview because I am your friend, and Gaiety Galaxy is your second home, but I am telling what the public is telling me. I can't lie because this is what public is saying." He also mentioned a conversation with producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who reassured him of the film's potential success.

Before "Sikandar" hit the theaters, Salman Khan had appealed to fans to support not only his film but other big releases of the week, including "L2: Empuraan" by Mohanlal and Sunny Deol's new project. "I am hoping people get good bonuses on Eid so they can watch Sikandar, Mohanlal sir's L2: Empuraan, and also Sunny Deol's new film (Jaat). Three big stars are coming with big films, and I hope all work," Khan had said, showcasing a spirit of camaraderie among industry peers.

As "Sikandar" navigates through its theatrical run, it's clear the journey has been anything but smooth. Initially celebrated for grossing Rs 105.89 crore worldwide in just two days, the film's subsequent performance has been a roller coaster of highs and lows. Whether "Sikandar" can overcome these hurdles and regain its box office momentum remains to be seen.
