Sitaare Zameen Par OTT Deal: Aamir Khan REJECTS Rs 120 Cr Amazon Prime Video Offer For Streaming – REASON
Aamir Khan's upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par, will exclusively release in theatres on June 20, rejecting a Rs 120 crore OTT offer. The film aims to boost cinema attendance with a delayed digital release strategy, pending availability on YouTube.

Sitaare Zameen Par Update: Aamir Khan's latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is set to hit theatres on June 20. The 60-year-old actor has decided against releasing the film on OTT platforms, opting for an exclusive cinema release. Reports suggest that Aamir turned down a substantial Rs 120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video for the film's digital rights.
According to trade analyst Komal Nahta, Aamir aims to test if delaying a film's digital release by eight weeks can draw audiences back to cinemas. After its theatrical run, Sitaare Zameen Par will be available on YouTube, but viewers will need to pay to watch it. However, it's unclear when exactly it will be released on YouTube.
Sitaare Zameen Par Cast and Certification
The movie features ten newcomers: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. Genelia Deshmukh also plays a leading role in the film.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has approved Sitaare Zameen Par without any cuts. Directed by RS Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the film also lists B Shrinivas Rao and Ravi Bhagchandka as producers.
Digital Release Strategy
Amazon Prime Video's Rs 120 crore offer included a digital release right after the eight-week theatrical window. However, Aamir's strategy means that the film might not appear on YouTube immediately after its cinema run. This decision reflects his interest in exploring new ways to boost theatre attendance.
Sitaare Zameen Par is considered a spiritual successor to Aamir's 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. By focusing on a theatrical-first approach, Aamir hopes to gauge audience reactions and potentially influence future distribution strategies in the industry.
The decision not to sell digital rights immediately highlights Aamir's commitment to traditional cinema experiences. As audiences anticipate the film's release, it remains to be seen how this strategy will impact box office numbers and viewer engagement.
