Sitaare Zameen Par Release Date Updates: Aamir Khan Vs CBFC; Will The Film Get Delayed AGAIN? Deets
Sitaare Zameen Par Release Date Updates: Aamir Khan starrer 'Sitaare Zameen Par' to face a delay once again? Is the film yet to receive the censor board certificate? The upcoming Hindi-language social comedy-drama, billed as the sequel to Aamir Khan's 2007 film 'Taare Zameen Par', has been the center of discussion ever since its announcement. From being the exact Hindi remake of the 2018 Spanish sports comedy-drama 'Campeones' to Aamir Khan's alleged rejection of CBFC's (Central Board of Film Certification) cut suggestions, the release of the movie sparks questions.
Sitaare Zameen Par CBFC Cut Dispute: Aamir Khan Film To Get Censor Certificate?
Starring Aamir Khan in the lead, marking his return to big screens almost 3 years after the box office debacle of 'Laal Singh Chaddha', Sitaare Zameen Par features 23-year younger actress Genelia Deshmukh as his leading lady. With a few days to go for its highly-anticipated release on June 21, an alleged tiff has taken place between Aamir Khan and the CBFC.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC suggested two cuts in the film before granting it the certificate and apparently Aamir Khan rejected the suggestions. Reportedly, both Aamir Khan and Sitaare Zameen Par director R.S. Prasanna feel that the film should be passed without the cuts. And as a result, the film still awaits a certification from the CFBC in India.
"The CBFC have asked for two cuts. Aamir Khan feels the film should be passed without these cuts. He and director RS Prasanna have made the film with a lot of thought. Certain scenes and dialogs, when seen in context, seem completely appropriate," a source informed the portal.
"With Aamir Khan not accepting the cuts, the censor certificate wasn't awarded to Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir now plans to once again meet the CBFC Examining Committee on Monday and put forward his point of view," the report added.
As per the same report, Khan is expected to meet the CBFC Examining Committee today (Monday, June 16) again and put forward his point of view.
Amid the ongoing CBFC trouble in India, Sitaare Zameen Par has reportedly received a 12A rating from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). According to them, the film, with a runtime of 2 hours and 35 minutes, includes themes of discrimination and a couple of s*xual references.
Will Sitaare Zameen Par Release Date Get Delayed Again?
Amid the censor board certification delay, Sitaare Zameen Par might face a delay once again. If Aamir Khan and the CBFC stick to their own decision and refuse to budge, the makers will have to postpone the release date.
Fans are hoping the issue between Aamir Khan and the CBFC gets resolved today.
Sitaare Zameen Par: Aamir Khan On His Age Gap With Genelia Deshmukh
The huge age gap between 60-year-old Aamir Khan and 37-year-old Genelia Deshmukh, who play a couple in Sitaare Zameen Par, has received a lot of flak from the netizens.
Addressing the same, Khan told The Indian Express, "Ya, I know. But that was a long time ago. And ab Imran bhi kafi meri age ka ho gaya hai (laughs). That thought did come to me, but in the film, we're both playing characters in the age group of early 40s. She's around that age. I'm 60, but in today's day and age, we have the advantage of VFX. Earlier, if I played an 18-year-old, I had to rely on prosthetic."
For those unversed, Genelia played the female lead in Aamir Khan's nephew Imraan Khan's debut film as a male lead.
