Somy Ali Speaks Out On India-Pakistan Tension, Ceasefire: War Is The Failure Of Empathy

Former Bollywood actress and human rights activist Somy Ali breaks her silence on the Indo-Pakistan conflict, calling for unity over division, and compassion over hate.
"War is never the answer. It is the failure of empathy," Somy said in an emotional statement. "As someone born in Pakistan, raised in the United States, and having lived years in India working in Bollywood, my heart does not beat for one nation-it beats for humanity."
Somy, who now resides in Miami, speaks from a uniquely transnational and transcultural lens. Her ancestry traces back to both Hindu and Jain roots from her father's side, and the ancient Iraqi Mitanni and Vedic traditions from her mother's lineage. "My roots stretch across the very lands now divided by fear and politics. Persia is divided and so is India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. What is accomplished?"
In response to the recent ceasefire, she urges the public to view it not as the end of violence but as the beginning of healing. "This is not a time for bombs. It's a time for rebirth. Let this be a call to action to every Indian, every Pakistani, every Bangladeshi, every Afghan, every Persian, every global citizen: we must stop inheriting hate and start building bridges."
Somy who hasn't returned to Pakistan in years, founded her NGO No More Tears in Miami. When asked why she chose that city, her answer is both heartfelt and harrowing. "I may not have returned to Pakistan recently, but the pain I saw growing up there-child brides, abuse, silence-never left me. Miami is where the scream of a sex trafficking victim reached me louder than any border could mute."
Her organization has since rescued over 50,000 survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, and LGBTQ+ persecution from across the globe. "I am a survivor myself," she admits. "This fight is not limited by geography. It is South Asian. It is Middle Eastern. It is ancestral. It is urgent."
Somy's years in India, between the ages of 16 and 24, were formative. Though she achieved fame in Bollywood, she credits the people-not the glamour-with shaping her purpose. "India raised me into the woman I have become. The industry gave me visibility, but it was the streets, the slums, and the silences of women I met that gave me purpose."
Her message is one of hope, resilience, and action. "I've seen the best of Pakistan's and India's soul. But I've also seen its bruises. I'm not here to promote a film; I'm here to promote healing."
From Karachi to Mumbai to Miami, Somy Ali's journey has never been linear-but it has always been purposeful. "This war must not be our legacy. Unity must. Let us be the generation that turned pain into purpose and made Bharat proud."
