As Behen Hogi Teri completes nine years, fans are revisiting the film that saw Shruti Haasan step out of her comfort zone and undergo a noticeable physical transformation for her role.

Released in 2017, the romantic comedy featured Shruti opposite Rajkummar Rao and followed the story of two neighbours navigating love amidst societal expectations. While the film was appreciated for its humour and relatable setting, Shruti's commitment to her character Binny Arora became a major talking point.

The actress had intentionally gained weight to suit the character's background and personality. Speaking about the transformation at the time, Shruti had said, "Every character requires a certain look and vibe for it to be as real as possible. Given the family and background that Binny Arora was from, she needed to be slightly fuller and that's why I had to gain the weight."

According to reports, Shruti altered her diet and workout routine and gained nearly eight kilos for the film. The decision reflected her belief that an actor should adapt to the requirements of a role rather than the other way around.

However, her changed appearance also became the subject of online discussion. Addressing the reaction later, Shruti admitted she was surprised by the criticism and said, "It was the job which asked me to gain weight. I still don't understand why people were bothered about it."

After the film wrapped up, the actress returned to a strict fitness regime and shed the extra kilos before beginning preparations for future projects. Speaking about getting back into shape, she had revealed, "Soon after the film shoot, I got back to my intense workout regime and made sure I lost all that weight and then some."
