Sonam Wangchuk Hunger Strike Update: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has been in the news currently for different reasons. Initially, he made headlines for getting married for the third time to his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt. Since then, he's been accused of promoting 'love jihad' for marrying a non-Muslim girl.

The second reason for the constant discussion around Aamir Khan was his silence on the ongoing hunger strike of activist Sonam Wangchuk at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. However, the actor has finally reacted to the same at a recent event.

Aamir was asked about Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike during an interaction at the British Film Institute (BFI). According to reports, the reporter started the question by mentioning 3 Idiots and how his character Phunsukh Wangdu was inspired by Wangchuk. However, the actor clarified that the character was not based on the activist. Yes, you read that right!

The actor said, "No, that's not true, actually. That is a misconception. I didn't know about Mr Sonam Wangchuk at that time when we were doing the film. I know that, I saw a video of Chatur, just recently he said that... No, he's wrong. Maybe that's what Chatur was thinking, but I want to tell you neither did Raju, nor Abhijat (one of the two writers), nor I, we didn't know about Sonam. However, what Mr Sonam is doing is good work anyway. He doesn't need to be based on the character of 3 Idiots for us to respect him and the work he's done."

Sharing his views on Wangchuk's hunger strike finally, he added, "Well, all of us are very concerned about his health and his life. And we hope that it ends well. All of us are hoping that he ends his fast and looks after himself."

Soon after the video gained traction on the social media, Aamir's statement has been receiving a mixed response. While some are happy that he has finally reacted to the ongoing issue, others are disappointed with how the actor's emphasis was on clarifying about Wangchuk's rumoured 3 Idiots link.
