Aditya Dhar Sends Legal Notice To Santosh Kumar RS Over Dhurandhar 2 Story Copy Claims: Report

The Dhurandhar 2 plagiarism dispute involves legal notices and counterclaims between Aditya Dhar and Santosh Kumar RS while the film maintains strong earnings, with India net and worldwide totals highlighting robust commercial performance despite ongoing allegations about story credit.

The plagiarism dispute around Dhurandhar 2 has escalated, with director Aditya Dhar issuing a legal notice to filmmaker Santosh Kumar RS, even as the film’s box office numbers soar past Rs. 900 crore in India and more than Rs. 1,400 crore worldwide.

Earlier, Santosh Kumar RS alleged that Dhurandhar 2’s plot was lifted from a script titled D Saheb, which Santosh planned to direct. According to a Hindustan Times report, Dhar has now formally challenged these accusations through legal channels and is preparing further action.

A source told Hindustan Times, "Aditya Dhar has already issued a notice to Santosh Kumar through his legal team, refuting the allegations and requesting him to refrain from making false claims. Despite the aforesaid, since Santosh continues to make baseless allegations, Aditya is in the process of initiating appropriate legal proceedings against him."

Santosh has acknowledged contact from the Dhurandhar 2 team but described it differently. Santosh said, "It is not a notice, it is just a reply on my mail. They were harassing me, that I should not complain and that I am defaming them for my publicity. I told them in going legal, so don't send me messages, come to court."

Explaining the disputed story, Santosh said D Saheb followed a young boy whose family is attacked by criminals. The boy avenges the assault by killing those involved, gets arrested, and is later sent by RAW to Pakistan to combat terrorism. Santosh claims Dhurandhar 2 used these core ideas and added political elements.

The writer-director said multiple attempts to reach Aditya Dhar failed, so Santosh approached Jio Studios instead. Santosh said, "I could not reach director Aditya Dhar. I contacted the production house, Jio Studios. They said we are just producers, you have to discuss this with B62 Studios. I am filing a case against them. The producers are harassing me for making the story public, 'Why are you going public, saying bogus?' I told them, 'Come and legally answer me'." So far, Dhar and the producers have not released any independent statement on the plagiarism claims.

Despite the controversy, Dhurandhar 2 continues a strong theatrical run. The film’s performance is as follows:

Period Collection
India net (15 days) Rs. 937.82 crore
Worldwide gross Rs. 1,492.77 crore

These figures underline substantial commercial success even as legal arguments over the story credit move forward.

The dispute between Santosh Kumar RS and the Dhurandhar 2 team now centres on courts and formal notices, while the film maintains strong earnings in India and overseas. Further clarity on the allegations, and any impact on the production houses involved, will depend on the outcome of the legal steps mentioned by both sides.
