Arjan Bajwa: Earlier Health & Fitness Were Considered For Long-Lasting Effects, It's Now Focused On Trends

Arjan Bajwa, who is known for his impactful roles in Mani Ratnam's Guru and Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion, along with a powerful presence in movies like Son of Sardaar, Rustom, and Kabir Singh, and will next be seen in The Wives directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, feels the meaning of fitness has evolved over the years. Though he believes that people have become more aware today, he insists that it is more about how one looks on the outside.

Talking about how the definition of fitness has changed over the years, he said, "The idea of fitness has definitely changed over the last few years. In earlier days, it was not just about having a sculpted body; it was more about being physically fit in the core and not just for showing off. It meant something that would last you long and give you actual physical strength and a healthy body. But now I feel it's got to do more about how physically appealing one looks."

"Like, whether one has a sculpted body or their skin and hair look a certain way. Though it's just a matter of trends, which don't last long, people still change themselves with trends. So while earlier health and fitness were considered keeping their long-lasting effect in mind, now it is more focused on trends," he added.

He agrees that people are more aware of their health today, and said, "Most of the time, people are not looking at a long-lasting effect but to fit into the current trends. Everything is subjective to how you can fit in the current times."

He feels Indians are blessed that they have access to alternative medication like Ayurveda. He added, "At the same time, we are very much into homemade food. There could be times when you want to dine out and try different cuisines, but ultimately every Indian in the world comes back to homemade food after eating a couple of days."

He continued, "Even if you're shooting out of the country, you will enjoy the food over there, but ultimately everybody wants basic dal chawal after one week. So, it's not just about having that palate, but it's more about Indian home food that is full of nutrients and is easily digestible too."

Arjan believes sleep is one of the most important factors that affects overall health. He said, "Sleep is the ultimate switch button to reset your body. There is nothing else that works in relaxing your mind, calming your mind, and your entire body in every way but sleep. A healthy mind and body are because you complete your sleep, and that's how the human body is made. As much as other things like eating, drinking, and breathing are required, sleep is surely one of the most important aspects of life."

As for discipline, he explained being consistent is the only way to maintain one's health. He said, "You need motivation, obviously, but you cannot be thinking positive all the time or saying, 'Let's keep fit.' Fluctuation in motivation happens all the time. No day is similar, no hour is similar. But the only thing one can do is be consistent and follow a routine; that is our control."

A simple lifestyle change that can make a big difference? "It's an amalgamation of many aspects. I would say early to bed and early to rise is one of them, and it is the most important because we need to have a very proper circadian rhythm for our bodies. We shouldn't play around with that because a human body is designed that way. So, apart from trying to eat healthy, trying to exercise makes a big, big difference," he ended.
