The National Award winning singer breathed her last at the age of 92 in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. According to media reports, she was rushed to the hospital on April 12 (Saturday) after cardiac and respiratory complications. As news of the hospitalisation spread rapidly, reports stated that the legendary singer was in a critical condition.

The news of Asha Bhosle's unfortunate demise was confirmed by Shekhar Sumam who took to micro-blogging site Twitter and wrote, "Deeply saddened to know about Asha Bhonsle ji's demise. She was a true legend and one of the most accomplished playback singers of our country at par with Lata ji. She will leave behind a huge vacuum in the world of music. Asha Bhonsle will never be born again. RIP".

Why Was Asha Bhosle Hospitalised?

While there were reports about Asha Bhosle being hospitalised after suffering a cardiac arrest, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle confirmed that she was rushed to hospital after suffering a chest infection. Taking to Instagram, she wrote, "My grandmother, Asha Bhosle due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection has been admitted to hospital and we request you to value our privacy. Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively".

While Asha Bhosle's death has come as a shock to the entire nation, the entire film industry is mourning the loss. Film critic and film business expert Ramesh Bala also tweeted, "Saddened by the passing of #AshaBhosle Ji. A voice that defined generations, a legacy that will echo forever through timeless melodies. Her music wasn't just heard... it was felt. Gone, but never forgotten. Rest in peace"
