Bhavna Pani speaks on her Bhooth Bangla shoot and whats next

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Abhishek Ranjit, Bhavna reflected on her journey back to the big screen, her experience working with some of the industry's biggest names, and the exciting projects lined up ahead.

Here are excerpts from the interview-

Q. It was such a treat to watch you in Bhooth Bangla. How did the film happen?

The film happened thanks to Priyadarshan Sir. I had worked with him earlier in the Malayalam film Vetta, and after years, he reached out to me along with the writer. The moment I heard about the project and the incredible cast attached to it, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I'm grateful to Priyadarshan Sir, Akshay Kumar Sir, Balaji Motion Pictures, and the entire team for trusting me with the role.

Q. Why such a long break before you got back on screen?

Honestly, it wasn't a break at all. I've been working consistently for over two decades as a classical dancer, theatre actor, director, choreographer, and movement director. I simply wasn't taking up film roles unless they truly excited me as an actor.

Q. What has kept you busy all these years?

Theatre, classical dance tours, directing, writing, choreography, and ad films. My work expanded far beyond acting, and I was fortunate to stay creatively engaged throughout. There wasn't a single phase where I was sitting idle.

Q. What next?

A lot of exciting work is coming up. I've already completed another film opposite a very popular superstar, which is currently in post-production. I've also shot for a project with Rajkumar Hirani Sir for a major OTT platform. There are a few more films and shows in discussion as well.

Q. Do we see more of you here on?

Absolutely. I feel like this is my second innings. The response to Bhooth Bangla has been extremely encouraging, and I look forward to taking on more interesting and impactful roles.

Q. Do you sense a huge shift in the industry from when you started to today?

Definitely. Today, storytelling is more character-driven and ensemble-focused. OTT has also opened up opportunities for diverse stories and performers. It's an exciting time to be an actor.

Q. Any fond memories of shooting Bhooth Bangla and how was it working with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal?

It was an incredible experience. I shot for around 21 days, and every day felt like a learning opportunity. Working alongside such legendary actors was inspiring, and everyone on set was warm, welcoming, and incredibly supportive.

Q. Any anecdotes you can share?

We had a lot of fun between takes. There were impromptu cricket matches and endless games of Ludo. Abhishek Sir was always on set keeping the energy high, and unfortunately, I kept losing the Ludo games and owe him quite a bit of money! Thankfully, he hasn't asked for it back yet.
