Border 2 boasts of a large ensemble, including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. As the film is based against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan 1971 war, it will feature characters from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy, along with their families.

Sunny Deol, who was an integral part of 1997's Border, is playing the role of Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler from Sikh regiment, while Varun Dhawan will be seen as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya of 3 Grenadiers, a Param Vir Chakra awardee. Diljit Dosanjh features as Fg Offr Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon from No. 18 Squadron, also a Param Vir Chakra recipient. Ahan Shetty portrays Lt Cdr M. S. Rawat, an officer posted on INS Khukri (F149).

The Border 2 cast also includes Mona Singh as Fateh Singh Kaler’s wife and Sonam Bajwa as Manjit Sekhon, spouse of Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon. Medha Rana plays Dhano Devi Dahiya, partner of Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, while Anya Singh appears as the wife of M. S. Rawat. Family members of Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon feature through Hardip Gill as Flt Lt Tarlochan Singh Sekhon (retd) and Neeta Mohindra as Harbans Kaur Sekhon.
