Celina Jaitly’s Estranged Husband Peter Haag Denies All Allegations; Demands Public Apology
Mumbai-based law firm Semwal & Co. has confirmed issuing two legal notices to actor Celina Jaitly, escalating the legal dispute with estranged husband Peter Haag. The notices, sent on behalf of Peter and Peter’s father DI Wolfgang J. Haag, accuse Celina of making defamatory and misleading public claims during their ongoing matrimonial and child custody battle.

As per a report published in Hindustan Times, the action follows weeks after Mumbai Police reportedly registered an FIR against Peter Haag based on a complaint by Celina. That case involves allegations of domestic violence, intimidation and harassment. The new notices argue that Celina’s public comments, interviews and social media posts have further impacted the dispute and allegedly harmed the family’s reputation and the children’s privacy.
Fresh legal notices in legal dispute between Celina Jaitly and Peter Haag
According to Semwal & Co., one notice has been sent by DI Wolfgang J. Haag, who is Peter Haag’s father and the children’s paternal grandfather. The second notice has been issued by Peter Haag, both in a personal capacity and as a parent, citing concern for the welfare, privacy and safety of the couple’s three children.
The legal team has clarified that the matrimonial and child custody proceedings between Celina and Peter are underway before courts in Austria. Despite the case being sub judice there, the notices claim that unverified, sensational and defamatory narratives about Peter Haag and other family members have been repeatedly circulated across media platforms in India and abroad.
Allegations and denials in legal dispute between Celina Jaitly and Peter Haag
The family says they had intentionally avoided public statements for a considerable period. They state they hoped that personal disagreements would remain confined to legal forums instead of turning into a public spectacle. However, they now argue that continuing media coverage and fresh allegations have compelled them to initiate formal legal action through these notices.
The notices highlight several accusations made against Peter Haag in recent months. These include descriptions of Peter as abusive, violent, manipulative and emotionally oppressive. The family “categorically” denies all claims of domestic violence, emotional abuse, intimidation, harassment, concealment of the children, alleged brainwashing of the children and assertions linked to religion or radicalisation.
One major concern raised in the documents is public discussion involving the couple’s children. The notices state that repeated use of the children’s names, photographs and personal details in reports and online posts has caused emotional distress. The family contends such exposure has placed the minors under needless public scrutiny during a sensitive phase in the custody dispute.
Legal provisions and privacy issues in legal dispute between Celina Jaitly and Peter Haag
The legal documents argue that all child-related issues must be handled with confidentiality while custody hearings are active. They allege that the contested statements amount to defamation under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The notices also cite invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and interference with judicial proceedings through prejudicial public commentary.
Solicitor Yesha Shah, Partner at Semwal & Co., commented on the wider concern about public disputes. Shah said, "Laws enacted for the protection of women are among the most important safeguards in a civilised society. However, when matrimonial disputes are converted into public media trials through unverified allegations and emotional narratives, the very sanctity and purpose of such laws stand diluted. Legal remedies must remain instruments of justice and protection, and not tools for public vilification or reputational destruction."
| Legal step | Party involved | Key legal basis / demand |
|---|---|---|
| Legal notice by DI Wolfgang J. Haag | Peter Haag’s father | Defamation, privacy, reputational harm under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 |
| Legal notice by Peter Haag | Peter Haag | Protection of children’s privacy, alleged defamation and emotional distress |
| FIR against Peter Haag | Complaint by Celina Jaitly | Sections 85, 115(2), 351(2), 352 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 |
The notices reportedly seek immediate removal of content described as defamatory and misleading. They ask Celina to stop making any further public statements about the dispute or the children. The documents also demand a public clarification along with an unconditional apology, and urge media and digital platforms not to amplify unverified claims connected with the case.
FIR details and parallel proceedings in legal dispute between Celina Jaitly and Peter Haag
The notices state that if these demands are ignored, Peter Haag and family will consider civil and criminal proceedings. Possible actions include claims for damages, compensation and injunctive relief. This legal plan runs alongside the FIR registered in Mumbai earlier this month, which stems from Celina’s allegations against Peter.
The FIR has reportedly been filed under Sections 85, 115(2), 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. These provisions cover offences linked to cruelty, physical harm, criminal intimidation and harassment. Investigating authorities have also issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) for Peter, after allegations of non-cooperation with the ongoing investigation emerged.
Before the FIR, Celina had already approached the court under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. Reports indicate that the actor sought monthly maintenance of ₹10 lakh and compensation of ₹50 crore. Celina has further alleged that Peter restricted access to their children, who are currently living in Austria.
Personal posts and background of legal dispute between Celina Jaitly and Peter Haag
Earlier this month, Celina posted an emotional message on social media while sharing a video from Austria, filmed during a visit to her late son’s grave. In the post, Celina claimed the children had been taken to an undisclosed location. Celina also said communication with the children had been blocked despite joint custody orders.
Celina wrote: "The last few weeks were the most difficult of my life. I was in Austria for my divorce hearing …. Despite an undertaking before an Austrian judge, my children who were removed to an undisclosed location were not brought back to the marital residence," she wrote.
Celina added, "Despite joint custody & a subsisting order of the Austrian Family Court, I am presently DENIED ANY COMMUNICATION with my 3 children & I am heartbroken!" These statements form part of the material now challenged as misleading and defamatory in the new legal notices issued by Peter Haag and family.
Celina Jaitly and Peter Haag married in 2010. The couple’s first set of twin boys was born in 2012. In 2017, Celina and Peter welcomed another pair of twins, though one baby died due to a heart condition. Against this family background, the legal dispute spanning Austria and India now involves criminal complaints, civil claims and detailed arguments about privacy, reputation and child welfare.
