Chandu Champion Turns 2: When Kabir Khan Said “Very Few Actors Would Have Accepted...” About Kartik Aaryan
As excitement continues around the possibility of Kabir Khan and Kartik Aaryan reuniting for another project, it is worth revisiting the film that brought the duo together in one of the most ambitious collaborations of their careers. Two years after Chandu Champion released, Kabir Khan's words about Kartik's commitment and transformation remain a testament to the scale of the challenge the actor undertook to portray Paralympic gold medallist Murlikant Petkar.

Reflecting on the casting, Khan had said, "Very few actors would have accepted this challenge. It was an extremely difficult role. It could have gone to an actor far more experienced than Kartik and it would still have been a challenge. But Kartik rose to the occasion and delivered everything I desired as a filmmaker." The filmmaker's praise highlighted the demanding nature of the role, which required Kartik to bring both physical endurance and emotional depth to the screen while portraying different phases of Petkar's extraordinary life.
What impressed Khan most was the actor's preparation. Kartik reportedly spent nearly a year and a half training with boxing coaches, swimming experts, physiotherapists, dietitians and fitness trainers, fully immersing himself in the character's world. Khan also revealed that restructuring the actor's lifestyle and recovery routine was among the first steps taken to ensure he could withstand the intensity of the transformation.
Beyond the performance, Khan described Kartik as a star who balances commercial success with a hunger for challenging roles, calling it a rare quality in the industry. Looking back two years later, Chandu Champion remains a significant milestone in Kartik Aaryan's journey, proving that some of the biggest career-defining moments come from taking the toughest risks.
