In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Chief Copy Editor Abhishek Ranjit, Chirag got candid on the success of Roka, chemistry secret with Niti Taylor and how he handled rejections in a career where artists see the highest of highs and lowest of lows.

Here are excerpts from the interview-

1. Many, many congratulations on the success of Roka. Such a beautiful track that was released in the month of love and romance. It is the perfect Valentine's Day treat. How are you feeling?

Answer: Thank you so much. Honestly, it still feels a little unreal. This is my first music video, so before it was released, I was actually quite nervous about how people would receive it. But the kind of love the song and the video have earned has been really overwhelming. When you see people sharing it, making reels on it, and talking about the chemistry, it just makes you feel very grateful.

2. Your chemistry with Niti Taylor has already become the talk of the town. What's the secret behind the magical on-screen romance?

Answer: I think it's our professional attitude towards the project, we knew we had to create a beautiful Music Video and gave it all, the result is the chemistry you see on screen.

3. When did the acting bug bite you? Did you always aspire to be an artist?

Answer: After graduation, I just knew that I wanted to do something in the industry, but I didn't exactly know what that would be. Acting happened a little organically. My nani was actually the one who kept pushing me to give it a shot. She had this belief in me, which I honestly didn't have at that time. Somewhere, I think I'm sitting here today doing this interview because she kept nudging me in that direction.

4. You have been a part of memorable projects like Velle, Zwigato, Bade Achhe Lagte Hai and Badtameez Dil. Which character stays closer to your heart?

Answer: Every project leaves you with something, so in that sense, they're all special. But if I had to pick one, Anish from Badtameez Dil would definitely be very close to my heart. That show was a turning point for me in many ways. The character had so many shades, which made it really exciting for me as an actor to explore. Beyond the work, the whole experience was incredibly memorable: the energy on set in Serbia, the journey of the show, and the friendships that came out of it. I actually made some of my closest friends in Mumbai during that time, so whenever I think of Badtameez Dil, it brings back a lot of great memories.

5- Thousands of people from India come to Mumbai while harbouring the dream of becoming an actor. It's not your 9-5 job, how do you handle rejections, scrapping of projects at the last moment? Was there ever a phase where you nailed an audition, thought you would be signed, but things took a turn?

Answer: I think when you come from the outside, you automatically understand that the journey might take a little longer. I never had the expectation that things would magically happen in two years or that success would come overnight. There have definitely been auditions where I felt extremely confident walking out, thinking maybe this is the one, and then it just doesn't happen. Over time, you realise that in this industry, there are many factors beyond just the audition room. So, I was kind of prepared in my head about the rejections. I feel it is a part of an actor's journey; it has kept me humble and thankful for whatever I have got.

Stay tuned for the second part of the interview.
