Dark Humour, Gritty Action: Vikram Chatterjee’s Taarkata Marks His Production Debut

Actor Vikram Chatterjee is all set to headline Taarkata, an upcoming Bangla series on ZEE5 that blends dark humour with gritty action. The show also marks an important milestone for the actor, as he steps into production for the first time under his banner VC Films (Vikram Chatterjee Films).

Directed by Samik Roy Choudhury, Taarkata brings together an interesting ensemble cast that includes Meiyang Chang, Priyanka Sarkar, Srijit Mukherji, Satyam Bhattacharya, Ayush Das and Sushmita Roy. One of the key highlights of the series is Chang's casting, as it marks the first time he will appear in a Bengali-language series.

Describing the show, Vikram calls Taarkata a "crazy, wacky action-revenge drama" that mixes intense action with dark humour. The story follows an ex-cop who returns to his hometown under complicated circumstances to investigate a mysterious death one that may be connected to a buried chapter of his own past.

For the role, Vikram has also undergone a noticeable physical transformation. He has grown his hair and beard and lost weight to create a leaner, more rugged look. The title Taarkata reflects the protagonist's personality someone unpredictable, sharp-edged and driven. As Vikram puts it, the character is "wacky, with a strange sense of humour, but also raw, no-nonsense and determined to get what he wants."

Balancing acting with producing is no easy task, Vikram admits, but extensive planning has helped the team stay on track. Work on the project began months in advance so that the production process could be mapped out well before filming started. Once the shoot begins, Vikram intends to concentrate primarily on his performance in front of the camera.

Taarkata also signals the beginning of Vikram's journey as a producer. While VC Films is already exploring several scripts, he plans to take a measured approach rather than rushing into multiple projects. According to him, the focus will remain on choosing the right stories.

Although Taarkata sits firmly in the action-dark comedy space, Vikram is keen to experiment with different genres in the future. From love stories and thrillers to whodunits, he hopes to explore a wide storytelling spectrum. He is also particularly interested in telling stories about friendship-an area he feels is not explored enough in Bengali cinema.

With filming set to begin now, Taarkata marks a significant new chapter in Vikram Chatterjee's career-one where he expands his creative role from actor to storyteller and producer while continuing to explore bold and unconventional narratives.
