While the actor's fallout with Farhan Akhtar and the makers had reportedly happened earlier, the issue has now resurfaced after fresh reports claimed that FWICE has stepped into the matter.
Ranveer was originally announced as the new face of the iconic Don franchise, with the film set to be backed by Excel Entertainment. However, months ago, reports suggested that the actor had opted out of the project shortly before production plans moved ahead, sparking major speculation across the industry.
Don 3 Controversy: FWICE Bans Ranveer Singh
The controversy surrounding Don 3 took a dramatic turn on Monday after FWICE officially announced action against Ranveer Singh during a press conference. The development comes months after the actor's reported exit from the much-awaited franchise sparked tension with the film's producers.
FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit revealed that filmmakers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani had approached the Indian Film & Television Directors' Association with a complaint regarding the matter. While Sidhwani attended the meeting in person, Farhan Akhtar reportedly joined virtually to explain the situation to the federation.
According to the federation, the producers raised concerns over Ranveer Singh stepping away from Don 3 only weeks before filming preparations were expected to move into the next stage. FWICE also claimed that repeated attempts were made to arrange a direct discussion with the actor, but no meeting took place.
Ashoke Pandit further stated that shortly before the press conference, Ranveer Singh allegedly sent an email arguing that the matter did not fall under FWICE's authority. Following the discussion, FWICE President BN Tiwari confirmed that a "non-cooperation directive" had been issued against the actor, adding a fresh layer of controversy to the already headline-making Don 3 dispute.
Why Did Ranveer Singh Quit Don 3?
Ranveer Singh's exit from Don 3 sparked widespread speculation at the time, with rumours suggesting that rising fee demands after Dhurandhar's blockbuster success may have played a role. However, a source cited by India Today offered a different perspective on the casting and the circumstances surrounding his departure.
According to the report, "It's actually an entirely different story. To start with, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar offered him Don 3 after he had delivered three colossal flops. They stood by him even after Sanjay Leela Bhansali shelved Baiju Bawra because he was considered not saleable at the time."
Addressing the exit rumours directly, the source further clarified that Ranveer Singh's decision was not linked to the film's commercial potential or any sudden change in his market value. Instead, it was reportedly driven by creative differences, with disagreements over certain demands ultimately leading to his departure from the project.
