Golmaal 5 Cast Fees: Akshay Kumar’s Golmaal 5 Salary Higher Than Ajay Devgn For Just 22 Days Shoot? DEETS

Akshay Kumar is joining Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 5 as the antagonist and, according to reports, is earning about Rs 35-40 crore for an 18-22 day shoot, a higher upfront amount than lead actor Ajay Devgn, whose overall earnings are linked to a profit-sharing agreement.

Reports suggest Akshay’s pay reflects both the short shooting window and the scale of the comedy franchise. Ajay continues as the face of the “Golmaal” series, while Akshay steps in as the main villain, adding a fresh dynamic to the ensemble cast in this fifth film.

The Golmaal journey began with “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited”, featuring Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Sharman Joshi, alongside Rimi Sen and Paresh Rawal. The story reportedly drew from Harsh Shivsharan’s Marathi play “Ghar Ghar”, which later inspired Vipul Vora’s Gujarati play “Aflatoon”, one of the influences behind the original film.

The first film’s success led to four follow-ups: Golmaal Returns in 2008, Golmaal 3 in 2010 and Golmaal Again in 2017, each expanding the chaotic comedy world. Across these films, Ajay, Arshad, Tusshar, Sanjay Mishra, Vrajesh Hirjee and Mukesh Tiwari remained regulars.

Film Year Key recurring cast
Golmaal: Fun Unlimited 2006 Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi
Golmaal Returns 2008 Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor
Golmaal 3 2010 Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade
Golmaal Again 2017 Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu

Shreyas Talpade appears in three of the films, while Kunal Khemu and Johnny Lever feature in two each, helping create a familiar comedy team. Akshay’s entry in Golmaal 5 marks the first time an outside star joins as a prominent villain, changing the usual group dynamic.

A person familiar with the project told IANS: "Akshay Kumar is shooting for 18-22 days, and he is getting around 35-40 crs, which is more than Ajay Devgn's upfront fees because he is on a profit-sharing basis." The comment highlights differing payment structures rather than any reported on-set tension.

“Golmaal 5” was officially confirmed on Rohit Shetty’s 52nd birthday in March, when the director also teased that Akshay would be a “surprise package”. Behind-the-scenes images from the set later revealed Akshay in a bald avatar, hinting at an eccentric villain character within the comedy setup.

Ajay Devgn announced on April 27 that a new shooting schedule for “Golmaal 5” had started. Ajay posted a playful video montage from Ooty, featuring Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu, giving fans an early look at the returning core team on location.

Rohit Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Sharman Joshi revisited one of the series’ best-known moments on May 14 by recreating the race car scene from the 2006 film. In the original, Arshad’s Madhav and Sharman’s Laxman take part in a frantic race to impress a woman named Nirali.

That classic sequence shows Sharman’s character, disguised as a woman, sitting beside Madhav in a race car and waving. The new video cuts between footage from nearly twenty years ago and their present-day recreation of the same wave. Rohit captioned it: "Driving down the memory lane! How old were you when you watched the first Golmaal? We promise you'll relive those happy days very soon…filming in progress,"

Separately, Akshay Kumar shared a first look from another upcoming film, “Welcome To The Jungle”, on May 13. The actor posted an image standing in a dense jungle setup, wearing a dark suit and sunglasses, with the caption: "Next… #WelcomeToTheJungle." The post underlined Akshay’s busy slate alongside “Golmaal 5”.

With Akshay taking on a villainous role in “Golmaal 5”, Ajay continuing as franchise lead, and much of the original ensemble returning, the film builds on a long-running comedy brand. The nostalgic promos and ongoing shoot updates signal that work on the fifth instalment is actively progressing.
