Ranveer Singh’s spy thriller Dhurandhar is set to return to cinemas in a revised form, as the makers comply with fresh directions from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India. The updated cut, with two muted words and a modified dialogue, will start playing in theatres worldwide from January 1, 2026. The changes come just as Dhurandhar completes a strong month at the box office after its December 5, 2025 release. Dhurandhar edit ordered under new directives

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, cinema owners were informed about the updated version on December 31. A source stated, "Theatres across the country received an e-mail from the distributors today, December 31, informing them they are replacing the DCP of the film. The reason for the change is that the makers have muted two words and changed a dialogue in the film, as per the directives received from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India."

The same source also disclosed that one of the muted expressions is “Baloch”, while another word and a line of dialogue are being changed to match the ministry’s guidelines. The revised DCP is now being circulated so that all screens, in India and overseas, show the censored version from January 1, 2026 onwards.

Dhurandhar box office impact and Gulf ban

Even with the mandated edits, trade conversations remain focused on Dhurandhar’s earnings and the business it could not do. The spy drama has already crossed Rs 1000 crore globally, yet it has missed out on theatrical collections in six Gulf countries, where the film has been banned from release.

Overseas distributor Pranab Kapadia explained the financial effect of that move in an interview with CNN-News18. Kapadia said, "I think this is at least a ten million dollar box office that we have lost, because traditionally action films have always performed very well in the Middle East. And therefore, we feel that it should have gotten a release. But, at the same time, we have to respect the views and the rules and regulations of every territory and every country, and they have their reasons."
