Jana Nayagan Censor Board Controversy

For the uninitiated, Jana Nayagan is facing a major hurdle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) which seems to be reason for the delay in film's release. To note, Jana Nayagan makers had applied for certification on December 18, 2025 and the majority of the committee had agreed to grant the film a U/A 16+ certificate subject to certain cuts. The filmmakers stated they implemented these directions and resubmitted the film, yet formal clearance still had not been given. Later, the makers had approached the Madras High Court on Tuesday, January 6, seeking a censor certificate. The court took up the matter after delays followed a complaint about alleged hurt to religious sentiments. During the hearing, Justice PT Asha asked the CBFC to submit the complaint copy to the court. While the verdict was supposed to be out on January 7, the hearing has been adjourned until January 9.

As the hearing on Jana Nayagan censor board issue is said to take place on January 9 at around 9 am, speculations are rife that the movie's release is likely to be postponed in India in all languages including Hindi. In fact, the makers have also unveiled an official statement regarding the same which read as, "It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audience. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control. We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest. Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team". In fact, film business expert Rohit Jaiswal has dropped hints about Jana Nayagan likely to release on January 14 if not on January 9.

Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan has got clearance UK with a rating of 15 age rating which means the movie is available to watch for audience above 15 years of age.
