Junaid Khan Breaks Silence On Ek Din’s Failure, Reveals How Aamir Khan Is Coping: We Were Hopeful, But...

Ek Din, a Hindi remake of One Day, under Aamir Khan Productions, saw weak box office performance. The film features Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, with discussions focusing on production choices, audience reception, and ongoing efforts by Aamir Khan to support projects after setbacks. The film marks Sai Pallavi's Hindi debut and outlines career implications for the cast.

Junaid Khan has reflected on the poor box office performance of Ek Din, the Hindi remake of Thai film One Day. The romantic drama, headlined by Junaid and Sai Pallavi, released on May 1 under Aamir Khan Productions but drew a weak response from cinema audiences across India.

Speaking about the outcome, Junaid admitted that expectations were higher. Junaid told Senior Journalist Vicky Lalwani, "We were hopeful. But I guess… It didn't do well. It happens sometimes. It's a film that I really liked, I really enjoyed. I think we all really liked and enjoyed it, and I guess… a lot of people did really like it, but I guess most people didn't like it. That happens sometimes."

Ek Din paired Junaid Khan with Sai Pallavi, who has built a strong career in South cinema. Sai Pallavi has worked for over ten years in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. Ek Din marked Sai Pallavi’s first Hindi film. The project was produced by Aamir Khan Productions and reached theatres on May 1.

Before Aamir Khan Productions came on board, Junaid Khan said the film had a different path. The script was initially set to be produced by Siddharth P. Malhotra, director of Maharaj. Plans were in place to start filming soon after Maharaj, before Junaid sought Aamir Khan’s opinion on the material.

Junaid shared that asking Aamir Khan for that second opinion changed how Ek Din finally progressed. Junaid now avoids discussing future scripts with Aamir before signing. Junaid called that approach a mistake in this case, suggesting it altered the project’s original trajectory and timing in ways Junaid had not expected.

Junaid also revealed how Aamir Khan is handling the setback. Junaid said, "He is still hopeful. Yeah, even after all these years, after seeing everything, it still really bothers him. But he keeps himself busy and gets back to it, and goes back out there and does it all over again."

The film’s commercial struggle, Junaid Khan’s honest response, Aamir Khan’s continued hope, and the praise for Sai Pallavi together show a mixed outcome for Ek Din. The project did not attract large audiences, yet it served as Junaid’s major Hindi lead and introduced Sai Pallavi to Bollywood viewers.
