Kantara Mimicry Controversy New Update: Ranveer Singh To File Revised Court Apology, Visit Chamundi Temple

The Karnataka High Court is assessing a revised apology affidavit from Ranveer Singh regarding the Kantara mimicry incident, including plans to visit the Chamundi temple and clearer expressions of regret, with the matter adjourned for further submissions.

Ranveer Singh tells the Karnataka High Court that a revised apology is ready over the Kantara mimicry row. The development comes while Ranveer enjoys the strong performance of Dhurandhar The Revenge. The Court now considers whether the new affidavit addresses concerns about the earlier apology.

During Friday’s hearing, Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya appears for Ranveer before Justice M Nagaprasanna. Poovayya states that Ranveer accepts fault for the mimicry linked to Chamundi Devi’s depiction. Ranveer is also ready to travel to the Chamundi temple and offer prayers as part of the apology.

Details of Ranveer Singh Kantara mimicry apology affidavit

Poovayya reads out Ranveer’s earlier affidavit to the Karnataka High Court, which sets out the actor’s position. The statement says: "I have filed an affidavit of apology. And I have undertaken in that affidavit that I will visit the temple as well. (The affidavit states) on the date of the incident, even for a moment, I did not realise I offended the worshippers of the Daiva. I also want to clarify, I was raised in a Sindhi household in Mumbai and I was not aware of the sensitivities. I, through this affidavit, once again convey my deepest regret, and unconditional apology. I will be visiting the temple of the deity in due course to offer my prayers and express my devotion."

Complainant Prashanth Methal argues that the affidavit does not show genuine regret. Methal also tells the Court that Rishab Shetty had already signalled Ranveer on stage not to copy the scene. Poovayya agrees to meet Methal, refine the wording of the apology, and file a revised affidavit. Justice Nagaprasanna records this and adjourns the matter to April 23.

The dispute traces back to November 28 at the International Film Festival of India in Goa. While addressing the audience, Ranveer praises Kantara: Chapter 1 and then mimics its climax sequence. Ranveer pulls exaggerated faces on stage, copying Rishab’s act from the film. Rishab stands up and requests Ranveer not to continue.

Despite that request, Ranveer again imitates the scene when greeting and hugging Rishab later. The Kannada actor-filmmaker asks Ranveer not to repeat the mimicry a second time. Supporters of the film say the sequence is tied to Daiva worship and Chamundi Devi, and therefore deserves respectful treatment from performers and guests.

After backlash, Ranveer issues a public note addressing the Kantara controversy. The statement reads, "My intention was to highlight Rishabh's incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I've hurt anyone's sentiments, I sincerely apologise."

The case now rests on whether the revised affidavit satisfies Methal and the Karnataka High Court. Ranveer’s promise to seek blessings at the Chamundi temple and his repeated apologies remain central issues. The Court will review the updated apology on April 23 and decide the next steps in the matter.
