Kiara Advani Breaks Down Talking About Postpartum Struggles After Welcoming Baby Saraayah: It Is Difficult...

Kiara Advani details her emotional postpartum journey, emphasising identity shifts, self care, and boundaries. She advocates for honest discussion to support new mothers balancing family and career, ahead of her return to film work on Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups.

Actor Kiara Advani spoke about her emotional postpartum phase, sharing that becoming a parent led to a deep identity shift. Speaking months after welcoming daughter Saraayah with Sidharth Malhotra on 15 July, Kiara said postpartum changes needed more open discussion and understanding.

During a recent appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Kiara became tearful while recalling those early months. Kiara explained that new mothers often prioritise everyone else, which can mean neglecting the personal bond they need to build with themselves after childbirth.

Detailing how motherhood altered daily life, Kiara said the initial period felt overwhelming and unfamiliar. Kiara shared, "It (motherhood) is such an identity shift. It is such a new world, and in that moment, it is difficult for the woman going through it to give herself grace. It takes time. It has taken me six months… In the past six months, I have just told myself: Just give yourself grace."

Kiara noted that conversations on postpartum experiences remained limited, despite many parents facing them. Kiara stressed that more honest dialogue could help others feel less isolated, especially when dealing with mood changes, self-doubt and shifting roles within the family after the birth of a child.

Reflecting on personal growth, Kiara said life had long been centred around other people’s needs. After Saraayah’s birth, Kiara consciously created time to understand personal feelings and needs, describing this new internal focus as the most valuable step taken for self-care in 34 years.

Kiara shared that this period also involved learning healthier inner dialogue. Over the past six months, Kiara worked on avoiding harsh self-talk and setting clearer boundaries. Kiara added, "Sometimes you are over-critical about everything that you are doing. I have learnt not to focus on fear. I had to teach myself all of these things in these six months,"

Alongside parenting, Kiara is preparing to return to work with the film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, the first project since Saraayah’s birth. The film features Yash, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Nayanthara in lead roles, with the release date currently not announced.
