Mahavatar: Harnaaz Sandhu To Play Lead In Vicky Kaushal's Mythological Drama? Here's What We Know

Speculation around Vicky Kaushal’s mythological drama Mahavatar is growing, as the team has still not confirmed the female lead. Earlier, industry chatter linked Deepika Padukone and later Shraddha Kapoor to the role, but a report in News18 stated that Harnaaz Sandhu is now the actor seriously being considered.

According to insiders, conversations with Harnaaz are at an advanced stage, though the final cast list has not been locked yet. Makers are reportedly checking dates and other formalities, and want the announcement to come only after everything, including look tests and contracts, has been finalised.

A source close to the film’s development told News18, "The makers were keen on casting a fresh face opposite Vicky Kaushal in Mahavatar to create a new on-screen pairing, and they are in conversation with Harnaaz Sandhu for the role. This fresh pairing will bring together two Punjab-rooted actors, which will keep the viewers hooked."

This interest in Harnaaz follows earlier reports suggesting Deepika Padukone had joined Mahavatar, which were then replaced by talk of Shraddha Kapoor leading the film. With neither name confirmed, the possibility of Harnaaz stepping in has added a new angle to the project and kept fans actively debating casting choices.

While casting talks continue, attention has also turned to Vicky Kaushal’s preparation. The actor is currently busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, where Vicky reportedly sports an athletic frame. Mahavatar, however, demands a very different screen presence, and that change has been delayed until Vicky finishes Bhansali’s film.

Earlier, a source told Mid-Day, "For Mahavatar, he will need to build a heavy frame like that of a wrestler, complete with a rugged look and long, matted hair. After Love & War reaches the finish line in April, the actor will adopt a new diet plan and workout regime to attain the required look."

Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu rose to national fame after winning Miss Universe 2021, ending India’s 21-year wait for the crown. That victory made Harnaaz only the third Indian winner of the title, following Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta, and turned Harnaaz into a familiar face across television, digital platforms and print campaigns.

Before entering mainstream Hindi cinema, Harnaaz appeared in Punjabi films Yaara Diyan Poon Baran and Bai Ji Kuttan Ge. Harnaaz later moved to Bollywood with Baaghi 4, sharing screen space with Tiger Shroff and Sanjay Dutt. Harnaaz played a dual role in the action franchise, and viewers praised the performance on social media and fan forums.

The team behind Mahavatar has not yet issued an official cast announcement, but speculation about the female lead continues to drive interest in the film. With Vicky set for a demanding physical makeover and Harnaaz in active talks, the project remains closely watched by Hindi cinema audiences and industry followers alike.
