Distance means little when music connects two hearts. For playback singer and composer Harshit Saxena, who is in Mumbai while his mother Vandana Saxena is in Lucknow this year, Mother's Day will be marked by emotional calls, surprises, and a shared melody that spans cities.

"My mother is the pillar of my life," Harshit says. "My only wish is to be born as her son in every lifetime. I love her beyond words."

Vandana Saxena is a woman of immense grace and hidden talent. A great singer and cook based in Lucknow, she has been the silent force behind his success. A gifted soul who carried music in her heart, she dedicated her life to her family and passed her artistic legacy on to her son. "She is not just my mother, but my first inspiration and the true foundation of my life," he adds.

The Murder 2 and Hate Story 3 composer credits his entire musical journey to her. "People say you either learn talent or are born with it. In my case, I inherited it from my mother," he shares. She sang beautifully and played both the harmonium and sitar. Harshit's maternal grandfather would often join her on the tabla, filling their Lucknow home with ragas and rhythm.

But it was a different era. "Back then there were no reality shows, no television platforms, and very little exposure for artists," Harshit recalls. "Despite immense talent, she and Nana Ji could not pursue music professionally. The world never got to hear them."

Vandana saw her unfulfilled dreams reflected in her son. She spotted the same musical DNA in him early and nurtured it relentlessly. "Her support was never just words. She gave me the wings she never had," says Harshit. From his first stage to his first Bollywood break, she remained his anchor.

Today, when Harshit steps into a studio or performs live, he feels he carries two legacies forward. "I am not just living my dream. I am living the dream she and my grandfather once carried in their hearts but never had the chance to achieve. Every note I sing is also theirs."

Even with Mumbai and Lucknow between them, the connection remains unbroken. "This Mother's Day, we'll celebrate through calls and small surprises. But truthfully, we celebrate every day, because my music is her voice too."

For Harshit Saxena, success is not just measured in charts and awards. It is measured in a promise kept to the woman who first taught him to dream in sur and taal.

He first gained national attention as the runner-up on the reality singing competition Amul Star Voice of India in 2007. Since then, he has established himself in Bollywood as both a vocalist and a music director. He provided the voice for the show Shrimad Ramayan and Veer Hanuman. This Mother's Day, playback singer-composer Harshit Saxena opens up about the woman who gave him his music, and his wings.
