Munna Bhai’s ‘Dekh Le’ Girl Mumait Khan Was Bedridden For 7 Years After Accident, Now Runs A Makeup Institute

Mumait Khan, known for Dekh Le in Munna Bhai MBBS, surmounted a life changing brain injury and coma to establish WeLyke Academy in Hyderabad, offering hair and makeup courses and transforming her early stardom into a focused education venture.

Mumait Khan, remembered for the song "Dekh Le" in Munna Bhai MBBS, is reflecting on a life that shifted sharply after fame arrived at 18. A serious accident at home nearly ended a rising acting career, pushed Mumait into a coma, and later led to a new path in beauty education and training.

Before that accident, Mumait had built a strong name in Hindi and South Indian films. Work in Telugu and Kannada cinema followed Munna Bhai MBBS, and bold item numbers turned Mumait into a noted s*x symbol. Then a medical emergency at home changed everything and forced a long, unwanted break from the entertainment industry.

Mumait Khan and Munna Bhai MBBS: from teenage stardom to medical crisis

Mumait’s journey in Bollywood began at 13, with small roles leading to bigger songs. Nationwide attention came at 18 with "Dekh Le" in Munna Bhai MBBS. Soon after, a home accident damaged nerves in the brain, and Mumait slipped into a coma for 15 days. When seizures followed, the incident felt like a death sentence for a promising career.

Speaking about that period to iDream Media, Mumait recalled doctors’ strict warnings and long-term health struggles. Mumait said: "I didn't leave the industry. I had an accident. Five nerves in my brain burst. Doctors told me not to work for at least seven years—even lifting anything was impossible. I was on medication for seizures, which gained a lot of weight. God made me Mumait Khan, and he himself put a full stop to it. I accepted it. I used those seven years to self-study."

Mumait Khan, Munna Bhai MBBS fame, and the road to WeLyke Academy

Those seven years became a forced pause, but not an empty one. While medication and seizures restricted work, Mumait focused on healing and reflection. During this time, Mumait began to see a future beyond acting. The period also planted the first seeds of what later became WeLyke Academy, a venture centred on hair and makeup training in Hyderabad.

Mumait shared that financial and emotional support from family, especially from Mumait’s mother, was crucial. "My mom took care of me financially during that gap. She kept me happy and maintained my lifestyle. Even today, before any big purchase, I call her and take her permission. She knows everything. I can't randomly spend money. In those seven years, I had a lot of time to think about what I truly loved. I realised it was makeup and hair. In every film, every song, I never repeated a look. Every time, it was different."

From that realisation, Mumait gradually turned a personal passion into a profession. Earlier, while working in South Indian films, Mumait noticed a sharp divide in styling practices and preferred to bring a personal team from Mumbai. With WeLyke Academy, the goal was to challenge those beauty standards. The institute in Hyderabad now offers a range of hair and makeup courses, priced between Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 50,000, and students can access education loans.

Launching WeLyke Academy was not smooth. Mumait planned to start the academy in 2023, but the project collapsed twice, forcing a complete restart each time. Despite those setbacks, the academy is currently fully functional and trains aspiring artists. For Mumait, this marks a second career, built from a teenage Bollywood start, a life-threatening accident, and a long recovery that reshaped priorities.

On the personal front, Mumait is 40 and remains single by choice. A past serious relationship ended, and Mumait is not looking to settle down at present. The journey from Munna Bhai MBBS to WeLyke Academy shows how fame, illness, support from family, and changing interests have together guided each phase of Mumait Khan’s life.
