According to senior journalist Vickey Lalwani, Nihalani breathed his last at Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital on Thursday morning (June 4).

The sudden passing of Pahlaj Nihalani has sent shockwaves across the film industry, with many colleagues and admirers mourning the loss of the veteran producer. According to senior journalist Vickey Lalwani, Nihalani had been battling health issues for the past four months and was reportedly diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.

The filmmaker was undergoing treatment under the supervision of Dr. Jayant Barve and had spent the last month being moved between different hospitals as his condition required continued medical attention. Despite ongoing treatment efforts, Nihalani passed away on Thursday morning.

Who Was Pahlaj Nihalani?

Pahlaj Nihalani was a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, best known for his work as a producer and his tenure as the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Over the years, he established himself as an influential voice in Bollywood, both behind the camera and within industry organizations.

Apart from his role at the CBFC, Nihalani served as the president of the Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers for nearly three decades before stepping down in 2009.

As a producer, Nihalani was known for his successful collaborations with Govinda, backing several popular films featuring the actor over the years.

On the personal front, Nihalani and his wife Nita, who were childhood sweethearts, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2023. The couple had shared five decades of togetherness.
