Priya Kapur Moves Supreme Court To Access Karisma Kapoor–Sunjay Kapur Divorce Documents - Here's Why

The legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur's estate intensifies as Karisma Kapoor's children challenge the will's validity, while Priya Kapur seeks divorce records in higher courts. The cases hinge on authenticity, asset transfers, and prior settlement terms, with courts weighing privacy against the need for evidence.

The fight over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s reported Rs 30,000-crore estate has widened, with fresh focus on past legal arrangements involving the family. Actor Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Kapur, continue to question a disputed will, while Sunjay Kapur’s third wife, Priya Kapur, has moved the Supreme Court.

Samaira and Kiaan earlier approached the Delhi High Court, claiming the will favouring Priya Kapur is “forged and fabricated”. They say the document cuts them off, along with their grandmother and Sunjay Kapur’s siblings, from almost the entire inheritance. The children are challenging both the validity and the execution of the will.

Priya Kapur divorce records and Sunjay Kapur will dispute reach Supreme Court

In a parallel move, Priya Kapur has filed an application before the Supreme Court. Priya Kapur seeks certified copies of all records from the 2016 divorce case between Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur. The request covers petitions, filings, Supreme Court orders, and especially the settlement agreement.

Priya Kapur has told the court that these divorce records are needed to understand earlier financial and child custody arrangements. The settlement terms may show what Sunjay Kapur provided for Karisma Kapoor and the children. The information could affect how the estate is shared and interpreted under the contested will.

Legal battle over Priya Kapur divorce records and Sunjay Kapur will details

A bench led by Justice AS Chandurkar will decide in a chamber hearing if Priya Kapur can access these confidential divorce documents. The court will weigh privacy concerns against the relevance of the records to ongoing estate litigation. The material is expected to be sensitive, as it deals with family finances and custody.

Before the High Court, Samaira and Kiaan Kapur have alleged that the signatures on the will are not their father’s. They claim Priya Kapur worked with the attesting witnesses to falsify the document. They have asked to inspect the original will, kept in a sealed cover since September last year.

The children have also sought an interim injunction stopping Priya Kapur from selling, transferring or otherwise dealing with any asset of Sunjay Kapur. They argue that any movement of property could harm their interests while the authenticity of the will is under judicial review. The High Court is examining these pleas.

Sunjay Kapur, former chairman of auto components firm Sona Comstar, died aged 53 in June last year after a sudden heart attack while playing polo in England. The will surfaced after the death, triggering the present litigation. Courts in Delhi and the Supreme Court are now handling linked questions over his wealth and earlier divorce terms.
