Priyanka Chopra Varanasi shoot and big-budget production
Alongside the social media update, Priyanka is currently in Hyderabad filming Varanasi with director S.S. Rajamouli. The story tracks the character Rudhra as the city of Varanasi faces the threat of an approaching asteroid, with events unfolding across multiple continents and different periods in time.
Rajamouli has reportedly shaped Varanasi as a globe-hopping adventure, anchored in Indian cultural ideas and influenced by the structure and emotions of classic adventure films. Shooting has taken place in Hyderabad, locations in Odisha, and in Kenya, reflecting the wide setting hinted at in the story outline.
The scale of Varanasi also stands out. The production budget is reported between Rs. 1,000 crore and Rs. 1,300 crore, putting it among the costliest Indian films planned so far. The film is scheduled for a theatrical launch in April 2027, giving the team a long production and post-production window.
