Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case: Delhi HC Grants Bail To Actor; Suspends Sentence Till March 18
The Delhi High Court granted temporary relief to Rajpal Yadav in the cheque bounce case, suspending the sentence after he deposited Rs 1.5 crore into the complainants account. The interim order allows attendance at a family wedding while the case proceeds, with final resolution pending a future date.
Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received interim relief in a long-running cheque bounce case. Delhi High Court has suspended the sentence after Rajpal Yadav deposited Rs 1.5 crore in the complainant’s account. The court allowed this temporary bail so Rajpal Yadav can attend a niece’s wedding.

The High Court has kept the sentence on hold till 18 March. Rajpal Yadav must appear on that date, either in person or through video conference. The latest order comes during a difficult period for Rajpal Yadav, who has been dealing with legal and financial pressure for years.
Background of Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce case and unpaid film loan
The dispute dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. The money was meant to fund Rajpal Yadav’s directorial film Ata Pata Laapata. The movie failed at the box office, and the loan stayed unpaid, leading to seven cheques reportedly bouncing.
The matter went before a Magisterial Court, which convicted Rajpal Yadav and spouse Radha in April 2018. Rajpal Yadav received a sentence of six months’ simple imprisonment. A Sessions Court upheld this conviction in early 2019. After that, Rajpal Yadav challenged the findings before the Delhi High Court through an appeal.
Timeline of Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce case and court directions
In 2024, the court instructed Rajpal Yadav to show genuine efforts to clear the large dues. However, by February 2026, the court noted repeated breaches of undertakings regarding repayment. The court then directed Rajpal Yadav to surrender, which led to custody and renewed focus on the cheque bounce case.
Before surrendering, Rajpal Yadav spoke to Bollywood Hungama and expressed helplessness about the debt. Rajpal Yadav said, "Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta (sir, what to do? I don't have the money to pay back. Can't see another way out)." The comment highlighted the financial strain.
The case also drew a strong response from colleagues in the film industry after Rajpal Yadav was sent to Tihar Jail. Actors including Sonu Sood, Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan and Gurmeet Choudhary stepped in with financial help. Several singers and filmmakers reportedly paid advances and offered roles in upcoming projects to support Rajpal Yadav.
The interim suspension of sentence till 18 March offers short-term breathing space for Rajpal Yadav. The deposit of Rs 1.5 crore and permission to attend the family wedding mark a temporary pause in the case. However, the cheque bounce dispute and the remaining dues still await final judicial resolution.
