Ranveer Singh Row: Producer TP Aggarwal Moves Court Against Actor's FWICE ‘Ban’ Over Don 3 Exit

Ranveer Singh’s dispute over Don 3 has moved from industry corridors to a courtroom, as veteran producer TP Aggarwal challenges the Federation of Western India Cine Employees’ non-cooperation directive, while the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association publicly backs Ranveer Singh and questions why the association was not approached earlier by any party.

Aggarwal has filed a civil petition in the Bombay Civil Court in Dindoshi against FWICE and the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association, arguing that trade bodies cannot legally instruct producers or technicians to avoid working with any individual, and the court has now issued notices to both organisations to respond to the petition.

Ranveer Singh legal challenge to FWICE directive and trade body powers

TP Aggarwal, who earlier served as Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association president for 17 years and headed the Film Federation of India on four occasions, argues that such directives interfere with livelihoods, and says attempts to stop people from collaborating with Ranveer Singh or any other actor must pass legal scrutiny rather than rely on internal trade decisions.

Aggarwal stresses that non-cooperation calls can damage creative freedom and income prospects across the film industry, and says these measures should never be treated lightly, adding that disputes over Ranveer Singh or similar cases must follow proper legal process instead of informal bans that trade bodies are not authorised to impose.

CINTAA support for Ranveer Singh amid Don 3 dispute

While the legal case unfolds, Ranveer Singh has gained formal backing from the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association, with CINTAA vice-president and senior actor Padmini Kolhapure stating that the body stands firmly with Ranveer Singh as a member and will support Ranveer Singh whenever needed, though Kolhapure declined to expand further as the matter is already public.

Kolhapure’s remarks followed CINTAA president Poonam Dhillon’s statement of disappointment that neither Ranveer Singh nor Excel Entertainment, nor any representative from FWICE, contacted the association, with Dhillon explaining that CINTAA currently lacks detailed information because “we were not approached either by the artists or by the production or by the Federation.”

Ranveer Singh and FWICE non-cooperation directive over Don 3

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees issued its non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh on May 25, after FWICE claimed Ranveer Singh did not respond to several calls to appear in person and explain the circumstances surrounding the Don 3 exit, which had already triggered intense discussion within the Hindi film industry.

FWICE chief advisor Ashoke Pandit later tried to clarify the body’s stance, telling ETimes that the decision was being misunderstood, and saying, “The entire conversation has become wrong. It’s not a ban. We are not a court; we can’t ban people. Hence, we have issued a non-cooperation,” stressing that FWICE sees the step as advisory.

Ranveer Singh complaint by Excel Entertainment and Don 3 timeline

Ashoke Pandit earlier told the media in Mumbai that Farhan Akhtar lodged a complaint with FWICE on April 11, stating that “three weeks before the unit was to leave for the shoot, Ranveer left the movie,” while Excel Entertainment, backing Don 3, has reportedly sought Rs 45 crore from Ranveer Singh towards pre-production costs already spent.

Ranveer Singh had been announced as the lead of Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 nearly two years before the exit and eventually stepped away from the film in December 2025, and the ongoing demands for damages, FWICE’s non-cooperation directive, and TP Aggarwal’s lawsuit have now placed the dispute under formal judicial review while CINTAA maintains public support for Ranveer Singh.
