Riddhima Reveals Ranbir's First Reaction To Her Acting Debut: Fish Don't Have To Be Taught How To Swim
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni has opened up about the support she received after her acting debut in Daadi Ki Shaadi. The project marked her first screen appearance, while also bringing Neetu Kapoor back to films after four years away. Kapil Sharma and Sadia Khateeb also played key roles in the release, which came out last month.

Speaking about her first experience before the camera, Riddhima said her family stayed close during the process. She said her mother, brother Ranbir Kapoor, and sister-in-law Alia Bhatt all shared advice before filming began. Their guidance, she said, helped her stay calm and avoid putting on a performance that felt forced.

During her chat with ANI, Riddhima explained that Ranbir and Alia told her to keep things simple. They wanted her to remain natural, rather than push too hard or hold back too much. She recalled their advice clearly, saying, "I got tips from my mother, from my brother, from Alia, they said be yourself, don't overact, don't underplay, just go with the flow, and just do whatever you feel."
That support was important for Riddhima, who is married to Bharat Sahni. She said the three family members offered similar advice, which made the message even clearer. Instead of trying to copy anyone else, she was told to trust her own instincts and let the scene flow without overthinking each moment.
Riddhima also shared that the response to her performance was warm and encouraging. Many people told her she appeared confident and natural in her debut. She said those comments made her feel reassured, especially because the project was her first step into acting and carried added attention because of her family name.
One compliment stood out more than the rest. Riddhima said an old friend of her father, who also works in the film world, praised her through her mother. He told Neetu Kapoor, “Fish don't have to be taught how to swim.” Riddhima said that line felt like the biggest praise she received for the role.

She also reacted to the praise Aamir Khan gave her after watching her work. Riddhima said the remark was very kind, but she quickly set the record straight. She added, "It is very kind as well, but there's nothing like that. Ranbir is better, of course, but I tried." Her answer was modest and direct.
About Ranbir Kapoor’s reaction, Riddhima said they did not get time for a long discussion about the film. Even so, she felt his support. He told her that she had strong screen presence, which meant a lot to her. Soon after promotions ended, each family member returned to regular work.
Riddhima added that Ranbir became busy with his shoot, so there was no proper sit-down to review the project together. Still, his reaction reached her clearly. For a first film, she said that kind of response mattered, because it showed that her effort had been noticed inside the family as well.
Her talk with Alia Bhatt was equally reassuring. Riddhima said Alia spent time with her and gave another positive response after watching the debut. Alia told her, “You were very natural, and very confident for a debut film. Your screen presence was amazing.” Riddhima said hearing that was encouraging.
For Riddhima, those conversations helped shape the experience of entering films later in life. The advice from Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt focused on honesty in performance, while the feedback after release confirmed that approach. With Daadi Ki Shaadi, she has now taken her first public step into acting.
