Shah Rukh Khan Back As Don In Don 3 Post Ranveer Singh Exit? Bollywood King Has One Major Condition
Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly open to returning as Don in the third instalment if Atlee is brought on to shape the project, while Ranveer Singh's exit prompts casting shifts and ongoing negotiations. The film’s lead and antagonist roles remain unsettled as talks continue with other actors and creatives.
Shah Rukh Khan may again lead Don 3, with reports suggesting fresh talks after Ranveer Singh’s exit. Industry sources claim Shah Rukh Khan is open to returning to the franchise, but only under specific creative conditions that could change the current plan for the Farhan Akhtar-directed film.

The discussions reportedly gained pace after Ranveer Singh walked out of Don 3 late last year. Ranveer Singh had been announced as the new face of the franchise, stepping into the role that Shah Rukh Khan played in the second film, but the casting has now shifted again.
Shah Rukh Khan’s condition for Don 3 return
According to a report by TellyChakkar, Shah Rukh Khan is “willing” to reprise the iconic Don character if his key demand is met. The actor is said to have asked that Jawan director Atlee be brought into the Don franchise before committing to Don 3 in any capacity.
Reports suggest Shah Rukh Khan believes Atlee’s involvement could raise the film’s scale and audience interest. The expectation is that Atlee would help shape the project’s vision with Farhan Akhtar. However, sources also stress that no final agreement has been reached, and talks remain ongoing at this stage.
Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3
Ranveer Singh’s withdrawal has been linked to a change in professional focus after Dhurandhar’s theatrical success. Pinkvilla reported that a source explained Ranveer Singh’s current choices, saying, "He is keen to collaborate with filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee, and at the same time, he doesn't want to be seen in back-to-back gangster films, especially since Dhurandhar is already established in that space."
This shift meant Ranveer Singh no longer wished to anchor another gangster-led narrative immediately after Dhurandhar. With that decision, Don 3 lost its announced lead, reopening the possibility of Shah Rukh Khan’s return, while also forcing the makers to reassess casting, tone and timing for the next instalment.
Cast and production updates on Don 3
Don 3 has remained one of the most discussed upcoming Bollywood projects, even without a locked cast. Kiara Advani was earlier signed as the female lead opposite Ranveer Singh. Later reports claimed Kiara Advani exited, with Kriti Sanon considered as a replacement, though there is still no official confirmation regarding the final leading actor.
The antagonist slot has also seen changes. Industry rumours state that Vikrant Massey and Vijay Deverakonda were approached to play the main villain in Don 3. Both actors reportedly turned down the offer because the negative character was seen as lacking depth, leaving the makers to search again for a suitable antagonist.
Key casting developments for Don 3 so far can be summarised as follows:
| Role | Actor | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Lead (Don) | Ranveer Singh | Announced, later exited late last year |
| Lead (Don) | Shah Rukh Khan | In talks, conditional on Atlee joining |
| Female lead | Kiara Advani | Initially signed, reported to have left |
| Female lead | Kriti Sanon | Reported replacement, not officially confirmed |
| Antagonist | Vikrant Massey | Approached, reportedly declined due to role depth |
| Antagonist | Vijay Deverakonda | Approached, reportedly declined due to role depth |
With major casting positions still unresolved, Don 3 remains at a negotiation-heavy stage, rather than active production. Shah Rukh Khan’s condition regarding Atlee, Ranveer Singh’s exit, and uncertainty over the female lead and villain all mean the project’s final shape will depend on decisions yet to be officially announced.
