The talented actor shared that perseverance matters more than talent in an actor's journey.

Here are excerpts from the interview-

Q. You joined the much-loved Gullak universe in its fifth season. What was your first reaction when you were offered the role of Dr. Prithvi Datta in Gullak 5?

A. First reaction was that of relief. Every time you give a good audition where you know you have nailed it, you always are waiting for that call... But at the same time, sometimes, despite giving a good audition, you don't get a call. So, you tend to prepare yourself for rejection also. But yes, once I got the message from Casting Bay that I had been locked, I was relieved!

Q. Entering an established show with a loyal fan base can be challenging. Did you feel any pressure stepping into the series?

A. Not really. I am just concerned about how I can do justice to my character and if I can put the director's vision to life. Rest of the things are by-products.

Q. What excited you the most about playing the new antagonist in Gullak?

A. The fact that he is very real. The society is replete with such characters which are considered arrogant and ambitious. Prithvi's conceit is there because he was born in privilege and is a no-nonsense guy. His misdemeanour is glaring because the world is seeing the story from Annu's perspective. In my eyes, he is a go-getter and allergic to bullshit.

Q. This marks another collaboration with TVF after Pitchers and Half CA. What keeps bringing you back to work with them?

A. For starters, writing. Every time you get a TVF script, you are itching to perform it. Its the Gold standard in writing. As an artist, when you get such fine tools to work with, you are just raring to go.

Q. You shared most of your scenes with Helly Shah and Anant Joshi. What was the chemistry-building process like before filming?

A. Psychologically, I had made up my mind that they are not up to my level. Socially and personally, both are wonderful people, and I am very fond of them. But a part of me had psyched my brain to think on the level of the character.

Q. Looking back at your journey from Pitchers and your cameo in Tiger 3 to playing a pivotal role in Gullak Season 5, what has been the biggest learning experience?

A. Patience and Perseverance. These two things are the toughest to do as you just have to go for them. Go through the lull phases and be at it. Sometimes, not be at it but just hang in there, by a thread. It's a game of attrition, and the one who stays wins. It's not talent, it's tenacity. Talent Se jyada jaroori tenacity hai.

Q. What are your long-term aspirations as an actor?

A. Long-term aspirations are to take my craft to the world.

Q. Are there any filmmakers or actors you hope to collaborate with in the future?

A. Quite a handful. Reema Kagti, Zoya Akhtar, Avinash Arun, Randeep Jha, Aditya Dhar, Anurag Kashyap, Shakun Batra.

Q. Can you tell us about any upcoming projects that audiences can look forward to?

A. It's in the works. Keep watching this space for more .

Gullak 5 is available for streaming on SonyLIV.
