Sharing a heartfelt note on social media, veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai paid tribute to the legendary auteurs whose films shaped his understanding of Indian cinema long before he entered Film and Television Institute of India at the age of 22.

Subhash Ghai Pays Tribute To Raj Kapoor

Reflecting on how he would escape from school and college just to watch films, Subhash Ghai revealed that the works of masters like Raj Kapoor, Chetan Anand, Guru Dutt, Mehboob Khan, K. Asif, Kamal Amrohi, Bimal Roy, Nitin Bose and Ritwik Ghatak became his "silent learning of Indian filmmaking."

Alongside rare visuals from classics like Ganga Jamuna, the showman-filmmaker also shared a powerful thought on cinema that resonated deeply with movie lovers:

"When you like a film - that's a hit film.
When you discuss a film - that's a good film.
When you remember a film - that becomes a classic."

Though deeply inspired by world cinema during his FTII days, Ghai shared that he consciously chose the path of commercial cinema in Mumbai, eventually becoming one of the most influential storytellers of mainstream Indian cinema himself.

The emotional post stands as a beautiful ode from one filmmaker to the legends who inspired generations and helped shape the golden language of Indian cinema.
