According to multiple reports, Sunil Thapa passed away due to a cardiac arrest. As confirmed by Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, the actor was brought to the hospital in an unconscious condition early in the morning.

An ECG was conducted at 7:44 am, which confirmed that he had already passed away. Hospital chairperson Rajendra Bahadur Singh stated that Thapa showed no signs of consciousness upon arrival, and doctors suspect cardiac arrest as the cause of death.

Sunil Thapa was a towering figure in Nepali cinema, with a career spanning several decades. He featured in more than 300 Nepali films and earned widespread popularity for his intense villain roles. One of his most iconic performances was as Rate Kaila in the film Chino, which firmly established him as one of the most sought-after antagonists in the industry.

His contribution was recognised with several awards, including winning the Motion Pictures Award Nepal twice.

Before stepping into films, Thapa had a diverse professional journey. He began his career as a model in Mumbai during the mid-1970s and worked with multiple clothing brands. He was also a professional footballer, playing for clubs in Bombay.

In addition, he worked as a photojournalist and even covered the Bhutanese coronation in 1974, showcasing his wide range of talents beyond acting.

Sunil Thapa also made a mark in Indian cinema. He appeared in the Bollywood film Ek Duuje Ke Liye and later gained significant recognition for his supporting role in Priyanka Chopra's Mary Kom, which earned him a Filmfare nomination.

More recently, he appeared briefly in The Family Man 3 as David Khuzou, a respected local leader and MCA Chief in Nagaland. Apart from acting, Thapa also served as the chairperson of the Everest Film Academy.

On the personal front, Sunil Thapa is survived by his wife Rajani Limbu and their two children. While he lived in Kathmandu, several members of his family are based in Mumbai.
