'I Was Asked To Leave The Church...': Terence Lewis Raises Questions Over ‘Discrepancies’ In Christianity
Choreographer Terence Lewis has spoken openly about questioning religious beliefs while growing up, sharing how doubt entered a life rooted in strict faith. In a recent conversation, Terence described challenging long-held ideas as a child and how this inner conflict shaped personal identity and family relationships.

The discussion took place on I.I.M.U.N.'s show Before I Became Me, hosted by Rishabh Shah. Terence used the platform to revisit childhood memories, reflect on spiritual confusion, and explain what it meant to push back against religious teachings that were central to daily life at home.
Terence recalled growing up in a devout Christian household where religious study was encouraged. Curiosity led to intense reading of scripture. He said, "By the age of eight and nine he first read the bible and then re-read it at the age of 12... that's when I started asking questions... there were a lot of discrepancies and the priests also couldn't answer. At one point he said, get out, leave. You are asking too many questions."
Those questions, Terence shared, did not remain inside places of worship but entered the home. The doubts caused emotional strain, especially for Terence's mother, who struggled with this shift. Terence said, "When I started to question religion, that was the hardest thing for my mother... I know I put her through a lot of grief."
During the conversation, Terence separated individual belief from religious institutions. Terence stressed that the issue lay with structures around religion rather than spiritual teachings. Terence said, "The Christian faith, not Jesus Christ... but the system, the church... why should I need to listen to this person's version of the Bible, and why can't I make my own decision?"
By revisiting these experiences on Before I Became Me, Terence brought attention to a quiet tension many face between family faith traditions and private doubts. The account underlined how early questioning of religious systems can leave lasting marks on personal growth, relationships and ideas of belief.
