Alia Bhatt is set to appear in Tumbbad 2 in a brief but crucial part, according to a new report, even as the makers stay silent on earlier buzz about Kangana Ranaut joining the film. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the only cast member officially announced so far by the team on social media.

A Mid-day report states that the filmmakers wanted a high-impact role with limited screen time and approached Alia for it. The report states, "The makers needed someone who brings gravitas and intrigue in a short screen time. Alia fit that space." The report adds that this role is central to the film’s narrative.

According to the same report, Alia will film her portions for Tumbbad 2 on 3 May. After that, Alia will travel to the United States for the Met Gala, scheduled on 4 May. Once Alia returns to India, the actor is expected to continue shooting from 6 May. A body double will handle some patch shots while Alia is abroad.

The makers had announced Tumbbad 2 on social media a few days earlier, but Alia’s name was not mentioned then. Earlier this year, trade reports claimed that Kangana had been signed for a key role in the sequel. However, the production house has not yet issued any confirmation about Kangana appearing in the project.

The fresh update about Alia’s special appearance has raised questions in industry circles. It is not clear whether Alia has been brought in instead of Kangana or in addition to Kangana.
