Exclusive! Heeramandi: Shekhar Suman On His Imagination Scene, "I Told My Wife I Have Done Something Bizarre"

Heeramandi: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's OTT debut Heeramandi has started streaming on Netflix. The series stars many actors including Shekhar Suman. In the series, there's a scene in horse cart, where Suman's character Nawab Zulfikar Sahab's imagines that he is having s*x with Manisha Koirala's character Maillka Jaan. The scene has come out very well, and even if you have not seen in the series, you must have got a glimpse of it in the trailer.

Filmibeat recently interacted with Shekhar Suman, and when asked him how it was to shoot that scene, the actor said, "I am so happy you asked this question. You know when I did it, and when I came home, I told my wife, 'I have done something which is so bizarre, I can't even share it with you'. So, she asked me what have you done? I told her 'I cannot tell you because you won't understand it, and I won't be able to explain it to anyone'. I don't think so any other actor in the world has done a scene like that. Only Bhansali sahab could think about such a scene. It was not supposed to be like this; it was just supposed to be a scene where my character is drunk and making out and talking about love. So, he was like there should be a s*xual connotation here, your character is a Nawab. He turns towards the opposite side, and then he goes the whole hog, mid-air, thinking that he is actually doing it, and reaches the climax."

"Sanjay sahab said 'this is a bizarre interpretation that has come to my mind, and you are free to say no'. But, I told him that this is very challenging, different, and bizarre. So, I want to do it. He didn't give me any instruuctions, he just told me, go and do it according to yourself. There has to be a balance in such scenes, it can go anywhere. But, first take, he (Bhansali) came out clapping and said 'magnificient'. He was so happy and I was so happy because I was a bit apprehensive whether this will happen correctly or not," he added.

Heeramandi has received mixed to positive reviews. Filmibeat's reviewer wrote, "Overall, Heeramandi The Diamond Bazaar is an entertaining series, but yes, after five episodes it does look stretched. If you are a Bhansali, Manisha, and Sonakshi fan, then of course this is a must-watch for you. Others too can surely give it try and can watch it once."
