Raviraa Bhardwaj: Good Looks Often Influence Casting Decisions

Actress Raviraa Bhardwaj, who is part of the show Aukaat Se Zyaada, a Freshh Mint's original series, says that good looks are often the guiding factors when it comes to casting for shows and movies. However, she says talent, and versatility are what is needed to survive here.

"Good looks continue to be a significant criterion in the entertainment industry, often influencing casting decisions and audience appeal. While there's no denying that appearance can play a pivotal role in certain roles, genres, or projects, it's important to recognize that talent, versatility, and hard work are ultimately what sustain an actor's career," she says.

She adds, "Many talented actors have broken through the stereotype, proving that skill, charisma, and the ability to portray diverse characters matter more than fitting a conventional standard of beauty. As the industry evolves, audiences are becoming more appreciative of authentic performances, and casting choices are beginning to reflect a broader definition of beauty-one that embraces uniqueness, diversity, and individuality. However, the pressure to conform to certain beauty standards still exists."

She adds that actors are often made to look a certain way, in order to get roles. "Actors often face expectations to look a certain way, whether it's to maintain a specific body image or facial appearance. While good looks may help open doors initially, talent, depth, and the ability to connect with the audience are what make an actor memorable. Ultimately, a balance between appearance and skill is ideal, but as the industry progresses, there is hope for even more emphasis on talent and less on physical attributes alone," she says.
