SANJAY LEELA BHANSALI REVEALS HEERAMANDI ORIGINALLY HAD DIFFERENT CAST SET

The web series, set to release on Wednesday, was originally planned to feature Rekha, Kareena Kapoor, and Rani Mukherji in the lead roles. However, the same couldn't happen. Indian Express reports Bhansali saying, "This was 18 years ago so at one point it was Rekha ji, Kareena and Rani Mukerji. Then it changed into another cast, then it changed into another cast." Bhansali also revealed that Heeramandi was supposed to be a film but it became so big that the makers had to make it a series.

SANJAY LEELA BHANSALI WANTED TO CAST FAWAD KHAN & MAHIRA KHAN IN HEERAMANDI

Besides wanting to feature Rekha, Kareena Kapoor, and Rani Mukherji in his series, Bhansali also wanted Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan in it. Since Heeramandi is set in pre-Independence Lahore, featuring courtesans and nawabs, Bhansali wanted Pakistani actors like Mahira Khan, Fawab Khan, and Imran Abbas in it. Abbas confirmed that he was offered a role in Heeramandi. He claimed, "I did not refuse that, but it was shelved at the time."

After several changes, Heeramandi now features Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chadha, Fardeen Khan, Sharmin Segal, and Shekhar Suman. The show is set to release on May 1at around 1.30 pm on Netflix.
