Secret Ameerzada EXCLUSIVE! Comedy Nights With Kapil's Upasana Singh On Playing Negative Role Again

Secret Ameerzada exclusive: Veteran actress Upasana Singh is all set to add value to the star-studded cast of Pocket FM's Secret Ameerzada. While Aly Goni and Surabhi Das have given their voices for the leads, Upasana is ready to surprise the fans with her 'arrogance' as a mother-in-law in the audio series.

Filmibeat caught up with Upasana, who is fondly known for her role of Bua in Comedy Nights With Kapil. Here are excerpts from the interview-

1. What motivated you to accept the role in Secret Ameerzada and how did you prepare for it?

When I was approached to essay the role of Yamini, I found it really interesting. "Secret Ameerzada" is a popular series on Pocket FM, so I was excited to join. I have heard the story myself, so I knew what it was about. Playing a negative character is a welcome change for me since I am known for comic roles, but I've also played a few negative roles in "Sonpari" and "Bani Ishq Da Kalma," which earned me accolades and the love from the audience.

After a break, I felt ready to embrace this negative character, especially in a successful series. I asked the team to explain the story and my scenes thoroughly, and met with the director for insights on the character's journey. I prefer not to over-prepare, that's where my experience counts and helps. Once I've learned my lines and understood my character, I let it flow naturally. It's vital to connect with the character authentically for the audience to resonate with the portrayal.

2. How do you see the growth and impact of audio series in the current entertainment industry?

I am really surprised to know the magnitude of love this series has earned from people. . It's unexpected but in a great way. It reminds me of when I was a kid and would eagerly wait to hear stories from my grandma. Even if I was upset, her stories would make me feel better. I never thought that an audio platform would become so mainstream in the entertainment space. Just like many others, I enjoy listening to stories, and that's one of the reasons we watch movies-to be regaled by good stories. This whole experience has been really wonderful for me.

3. What do you find most fulfilling about collaborating with a platform like Pocket FM?

Being part of a hit show on Pocket FM feels really great.Comedy Nights with Kapil" or the film Judai, in which my dialogue 'Abba Jabba Dabba' became so popular. When your name is attached to any successful project, it's really rewarding because a lot of people listen. So, when Pocket FM approached me, I instantly agreed because I enjoy working on exciting and dynamic projects.

4. Can you discuss any specific creative challenges you encountered while working on this audio series?

With audio series, finding the right balance between conveying emotions solely through voice and ensuring that the performance resonated authentically with listeners. While working on promos for these audio series, we need to recreate the storytelling with visual cues and it requires careful modulation of tone, pace, and inflection to effectively convey the character's emotions and intentions to stimulate the audience's imagination.
