Ram Kapoor Reacts To Being Removed From Mistry Promotions Over Offensive Remarks: I Am Guilty As Charged

Ram Kapoor has been removed from promotional activities for the series Mistry after making inappropriate comments at a press event. Acknowledging his fault, Kapoor expressed regret and recognised the impact of his actions on younger team members.

Actor Ram Kapoor has been removed from promotional events for the upcoming series "Mistry" after making inappropriate comments at a press event. The incident occurred on June 19 at JW Marriott, Juhu, where Kapoor's remarks reportedly made attendees uncomfortable. He was seated with co-star Mona Singh and JioHotstar executives when he made sexually suggestive comments.

Kapoor has since addressed the situation, admitting his fault but claiming no harm was intended. He stated, "The interviews are being held solely with Mona. I am guilty as charged. I have said it. Let me start by saying that everything I've been accused of saying, I have said it. So, the fact is that I am guilty as charged. But this is what I have to say in my defence. (sic)"

Ram Kapoor's Explanation

Kapoor explained his behaviour by saying he becomes more relaxed around familiar people and didn't realise his comments were offensive. He mentioned, "I didn't feel that even once throughout the day. We were laughing and joking. If I had gotten the whiff that they were offended, I would have dealt with it right away."

He elaborated on the incident, noting he commented on a woman's dress as a distraction but also asked men blocking his view to move. Kapoor questioned why he would make such remarks openly if he thought they were inappropriate.

Reactions and Consequences

The streaming platform hosting "Mistry" prioritises workplace dignity and safety. After receiving complaints corroborated by witnesses, they decided to distance themselves from Kapoor's behaviour by removing him from promotional activities.

A source from the platform stated, "This workplace prioritises dignity and safety. After a complaint was formally raised and the incidents corroborated by eyewitnesses, the leadership moved promptly."

Further Details of the Incident

During the event, Kapoor reportedly made several inappropriate jokes about kissing a male marketing team member and suggested his mother should have avoided giving birth to him. His remarks included offhand jokes about sex positions and a disturbing comment about feeling "gang-raped" in front of a journalist.

An employee recounted how they later realised the extent of Kapoor's offensive comments: "It didn't hit immediately, but when it did later that evening, we started recounting the number of offensive things he said."

Kapoor's Apology

Kapoor expressed regret for his actions and acknowledged their impact on younger team members who felt offended. He stated his intention to apologise personally to those affected.

"I cannot be my obnoxious normal self," Kapoor admitted, recognising his need to change his behaviour for both professional reasons and as a role model for his son.

The actor respects JioHotstar's decision to remove him from promotions and sees it as an opportunity for personal growth.
