Who Is Alex Honnold?

Alex Honnold, 40, is one of the most recognised rock climbers in the world. Honnold is known for climbing huge walls without ropes or protective gear. Global attention grew after a rope-free ascent of El Capitan, the 3000-foot granite cliff in Yosemite National Park, featured in the 2018 documentary "Free Solo". "Free Solo" followed every stage of that El Capitan climb and reached a wide cinema audience. The film won an Academy Award, which turned Honnold into a familiar name far beyond climbing.
