Aashiqui 2 Movie Review: Not Worth Your Money

By Puri

Rating:
2.5/5
Star Cast: Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor, Shaad Randhawa, Mahesh Thakur, Salil Acharya
Director: Mohit Suri

Expectations are definitely high when a sequel of any superhit film is announced. But let's be very clear here, Aashiqui 2 is not a sequel of Aashiqui, the only thing common between the two films is just the name! Instead of reminding us about the old Aashiqui, which made both Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal instant stars, Aashiqui 2 reminds us more of the Amitabh-Jaya starer Abhimaan. But alas, neither the film has such strong story as Abhimaan nor the kind of power-packed performances.

Story
Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur) is a singing sensation. He falls in love with the lovely voice of Aarohi (Shraddha Kapoor). Aarohi, who sings at small joints, also wants to make an identity in the music industry. Rahul decides to help Aarohi to fulfil her dream. He builds up her confidence and even arranges for her audition with the music baron. Later (as expected), they both fall in love with each other.

But their life turns upside down when Aarohi becomes a big star, while Rahul's career starts to diminish. To save her love and fragile relationship, Aarohi decides to give up on her career, as she believes - Love Makes Life Live!!!

Performances
Well, one good thing about the movie is Aditya Roy Kapur's performance. Not only is he good looking but he also is a good actor, we must say. He has proved this already in his past films like Guzaarish, Action Replayy and London Dreams. But Shraddha Kapoor has disappointed us. No doubt, she looks very pretty in the movie, but the actress surely needs to work on her acting skills.

Mohit Suri tries to make it a good, neat and clean film with Aashiqui 2, but the film's poor writing ruins his hard work. There is nothing new that Aashiqui 2 can offer to its audience.

Music
Music is definitely the highlight of Aashiqui 2. 'Tum hi ho' song, which is already a hit on YouTube, is very melodious and other songs like 'Bhula Dena', 'Sunn Raha Hai' are also very good to hear. The credit goes to Mithoon, Jeet Ganguly and Ankit Tiwari for composing such soulful tunes.

Verdict
The climax of the film is not up to the mark and will disappoint you. Watch this movie only if you are a die-hard fan of the Bhatt movies or have nothing else to do. Otherwise, just give this film a miss. We give the movie 2.5 stars - 1.5 stars to Aashiqui 2 and extra 1 for Aditya Roy Kapur's acting and the movie's music.
