Gippi Movie Review - Good for one time watch

Rating:
3.0/5
Finally we have a film that talks about a girl's adolescent phase, but in a fun way! Karan Johar's Gippi will take you back to your teenage years and there are certain scenes in the film with which you will instantly relate to. The feeling of jealousy, insecurity, anxiety that one experiences during their teenage years is portrayed brilliantly by the young actors who have given some power-packed performances in the movie.

Story
Pappi (Divya Dutta) is a single mother who lives in Shimla with her daughter Gurpreet - Gippi (Riya Vij) and son Booboo (Arbaz Kadwani). Gippi is fat, gol-matol girl, who is a big fan of Shammi Kapoor's songs. She is one girl who is least interested in beauty parlours, gossips and fashion. Neither she is good in studies nor has a boyfriend, but who cares!

On the other hand, her classmate Shamira Chauhan (Jayati Modi) has everything to be jealous of. She has an envious figure, she is intelligent and is also good in sports..in short, an all rounder. Shamira and her friends never leave a chance to insult Gippi. But one challenge thrown by Shamira to Gippi changes everything in Gippi's life.

Performances
Riya Vij is an excellent choice for the role of Gippy. She is a natural actor and deserve an applause for her performance. Nobody can play the role Gippi's mother so convincingly as Divya Dutta. She brilliantly portrays the role of a single mother, who is abandoned by her husband for some other woman and who wants to raise up her children in nothing but the best way possible.

Jayati Modi's acting is average, but has a scope of improving. Taaha Shah

, who is playing the role of Gippi's crush, also does justice to his role.

Sonam Nair, who is debuting with this movie as a director, has shown the mother-daughter bond on screen beautifully. These scenes are the highlights of the movie. Sonam is the first female director in Karan Johar's camp and her story has a breath of fresh air.

Music
The music of the movie is average and some songs look forced in the movie.

Verdict
Though the idea is fresh, the movie could have been much better. It loses pace at times and becomes very predictable. But nevertheless, youngsters will find it interesting. And just like any other Dharma film, this film too is shot on beautiful, picturesque locations. Good for one time watch!
