Daawat-E-Ishq Movie Review: Not That Yummy But Worth The Try

Rating:
2.0/5

Daawat-E-Ishq starring Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Roy Kapur has released today, and while watching this movie I realized something, that a good movie is exactly like good food, when you eat a good yummy dish you can't resist licking you fingers but when you eat a bland dish no matter how hard you try you just cannot take another bite, same ideology applies to a movie. If the movie is good, you get paisa-vasool entertainment but if not, you just cannot stick around for another minute in the theatre.

Daawat-E-Ishq doesn't belong to either of the extremities, this movie is more or less like a dish that is not restaurant standards but a yummy treat to have at home. This is a light film that deals with a serious issue like dowry in the most commercial way possible.

Director Habib Faisal said,"Daawat-e-Ishq is about the dowry issue. Like you must have seen in the trailer, the girl Gulrez (Parineeti Chopra) and her father (Anupam Kher) are oppressed by the dowry demon and in the film, we see them tackle it. In their adventure of dealing with dowry, they come across Tariq Haider (Aditya Roy Kapur) whose attitude towards women is that he treats them as equal to him. In that is his heroism."

Story:

Gulrez is a Hyderabadi shoe sales girl who is fed up of her encounters with the dowry-seeking men and Tariq is a Lucknowi cook, who can charm anybody with the aroma and flavours of his biryani and kebabs. The duo come face to face when Gulrez is on her quest to find her Mr. Perfect.

While they are extremely opposite personalities, they both are equally spicy characters who leave us enthralled and like they say, opposites attract. The film is now a romantic love saga with the couple roaming through the streets of the city spreading their fragrance of romance. Until that one day when the pretty little heroine suddenly turns into a con girl with a hidden motive. Now to know what con she pulls off along with her dad (Anupam Kher) and why she does so, you'll have to watch the movie and find out.

Habib has depicted this unique love story in a very beautiful way and has even incorporated the diversities of their home towns and characters really well but has stretched the initial story a tad too much like how a restaurant takes so much time to serve your food that you end up leaving so there does come a time when you desperately expect a twist in the tale.

The twist does come though and I must say it is quite a masaledaar twist with Parineeti's character changing the whole scenario. From good girl to bad girl, the transformation is nice and the second half of the movie is fast paced and entertaining.

The music of the film composed by Sajid-Wajid is not that great enough to top the charts but they serve up as something refreshing every time they pop up on the big screen.

Now coming to individual performances let's get veteran Anupam Kher out of the way for the actor is just brilliant and no words would be enough to describe his spotless performance. Coming to the hero, Aditya has managed to charm us with his acting and his witty character that provides all the humour there is in the movie.

Parineeti Chopra too has stood out with her performance in the movie, while many including me who thought this would be a flop film here is a big shocker, it won't. The movie is a treat and her character's grey shades is what keeps us glued to our seats. First time

Verdict:

Quite a masaledaar yummy movie that is a good one time watch but not so great that it would be the biggest blockbuster movie of the year. But Habib's direction, and the spicy tale definitely deserves to be watched.
