Holiday Movie Review: An All Round Akshay Special

Rating:
2.5/5

The movie Holiday- A Soldier Is Never Off Duty starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha is out in the theatres and it's definitely a wake up call for all those who keep a bad eye on this nation.

The tag line 'A soldier is never off duty' perfectly suits with the story as Akshay Kumar (Virat Bakshi), an Indian Army jawan who is no less than an entire Army troop does not forget his call of duty even while dating his lady love, beautiful boxer Sonakshi Sinha (Saiba).

The film Holiday is a typical Akshay Kumar flick with loads of hi-pact action scenes, pleasing romance and a few funny moments. To describe the plot of the movie Holiday, Akshay an Army man who also secretly holds the badge of being a NDA agent (National Defence Agency) comes down to Mumbai on leave in a bid to search his soul mate and when he finds one in the form of Sonakshi, Mumbai becomes victim of a terror attack by an outfit called 'Sleeper Cells'.

Soon one suspect gets nabbed and then starts a cat and mouse run between the one-man Army Akshay and the boss of the outfit, played by Freedy Daruwala. Akshay's most trustworthy partner in the movie played by Sumeet Raghavan is a sub-inspector in the film who could not reach the Inspector level and rightly so as he does nothing in the film to make him look like a cop, apart from adding some funny moments in the flick.

On the other side, Sonakshi Sinha has apparently nothing to showcase in the film other than bringing some romance for the Army man. Once a superstar Govinda is surely running out of work these days and that can be well ascertained from his petty role in the film Holiday.

Although the film Holiday is capable of keeping the audience hooked for its fast pace and strong action sequences, director of the film, A R Murugadoss could not save the flick from some typical Bollywood unreal occurences like the bad guys running out of ammo just exactly when Akshay's gun gets emptied, the otherwise very smart villain in a bid to look heroic dies like a fool in the end, abrupt song sequences, etc.

While the story of Holiday rests on a terror attack by a very powerful outfit but its all round Akshay who saves the entire city while, the police has no role other than operating their hi-tech tracking machineries.

Akshay has always been known as an action hero and the movie Holiday offered the actor ample space to decipher his action skills which he did quite well.

All in all the movie Holiday is an action packed entertaining 'Akshay Kumar special' which is surely a one-time watch if not two.
