Ungli Movie Review: Raises Painful Issues With Entertainment

The multi-starrer Bollywood movie Ungli starring Emraan Hashmi among others which created considerable hype for the star cast and the interesting plot has released today.

Directed by Renzil D'Silva, the movie Ungli features Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda, Sanjay Dutt, Kangana Ranaut, Neha Dhupia, Angad Bedi and Neil Bhoopalam in key roles.

Ungli is reportedly influenced from a Malayalam film which will present Randeep Hooda (Abhay), Kangana Ranaut (Maya), Angad Bedi (Kalim) and Neil Bhoopalam (Goti) as four friends who decide to make a positive change, showing middle finger to the corrupt system and eventually Emraan Hashmi (Nikhil) also joins the group, though with a different motive.

Being fed up with the corruption and all wrong operatives in the society, right from the grass-root, the five friends decide to make a positive change rather than just discussing the issues. Thus, they create a gang named 'Ungli' and the gang starts teaching lessons to everyone starting from an auto-rickshaw wala to corrupt government officials.

The Ungli gang target and kidnap those persons who they feel trouble the common people and then they teach them a lesson in really unique ways which the receivers will surely remember for the rest of their life. While, one indifferent auto-rickshaw wala was exported to a different city along with his auto in a freight train, two corrupt government officials were forced to eat currency notes, kindly with pickle; all thanks to the Ungli gang.

However, with the activities of the Ungli gang gaining popularity, the Police Commissioner gets under pressure to get the gang members arrested. This is when comes the entry of Sanjay Dutt (ACP Kale) who is given the task to stop the Ungli gang. Sanjay Dutt plays the role of a strict and honest police officer who does not like anything against the law, even if it's just.

Then starts a Tom and Jerry race between Sanjay Dutt along with his Police force and the Ungli gang. However, there is a revenge angle too in the story and the gang ultimately plans to strike a much bigger corrupt fish. Whether tough Sanjay Dutt will be able to stop the intelligent Ungli gang or they will continue their illegal yet noble movement? To know you have to watch the movie Ungli.

Co-produced by Karan Johar, the movie Ungli happens to be an edgy drama but certainly contains a strong social message. Although, the plot of the movie Ungli is quite interesting, there are certain loopholes in the film which the director failed to avoid. For example, the Ungli gang was seen using some hefty sum of money to carry on their operation but there is no clue of the source of the funds, all the members being middle-class people. Also, in spite of having a good and young star cast with some catchy dialogues, besides a publicly relevant plot of the film, the film Ungli somehow was devoid of any wow factor.

In a nut-shell, Emraan Hashmi's movie Ungli is a one-time watch which will make you relate to the ongoing public issues with a dose of entertainment but don't have too much expectations.
