Blank Movie Review: Sunny Deol | Karan Kapadia | Akshay Kumar | FilmiBeat

In a supposedly 'tense' moment in a police van, as Diwan (Sunny Deol) tries to extract a confession from Hanif (Karan Kapadia), the latter quips, "Sir, aap meri halat dekh rahe ho?". To which, Sunny paaji immediately puts him to silence by bursting out, "Main ye janana chahta hoon tumhare dimag mein kya hai."

Another scene has Sunny Deol almost channeling his angry man act from the 90s. In short, Behzad Khambata's Blank may be Twinkle Khanna's cousin Karan Kapadia's Bollywood debut, but it's the macho man Sunny who grabs your attention the most.

    blanks

Blank begins on an interesting note where you see Karan Kapadia handcuffed, kneeling down on a deserted land at the gunpoint target of the cops. Sunny receives a phone call while we see Karan struggling to set himself free. And boom!

Soon, we rewind back to few hours ago to learn the sequence of events which ultimately unfolded into this heart-in-the-mouth moment. Mumbai is under grave danger as a group of sleeper agents plan to conduct a series of blasts with the deadly HMX across the city. Enter ATS chief SS Diwan (Sunny Deol) who is all ready to go guns blazing with his 'dhai kilo ka haath'.

Meanwhile, a suspected terrorist Hanif (Karan Kapadia) finds himself in a hospital after an accident. The catch here, the guy has a bomb attached to his chest and is apparently suffering from a memory loss. The rest of the plot revolves how Diwan hunts down the terror hunt to save innocent lives.

Behzad Khambata's action-thriller looks promising on paper and the filmmaker does succeed in giving it a slick treatement when it comes to translating his vision on the big screen. However, the lazy writing with predictable twists play a major spoilsport.

Speaking about the performances, newbie Karan Kapadia needs to be pull up his socks when it comes to his acting chops. While Black doesn't add more pressure on him to dabble with different emotions, the young lad still barely manages to make a mark.

Give Sunny Deol an action-packed role and that man knows how to give us some cheap thrills. It's smart of Behzad to make sure that he gets maximum screen presence. Karanvir Sharma is impressive. Barring a scene, Ishita Dutta barely gets to showcase her girl power.

    blank

With some good action sequences and Sunny Deol back in form, Blank does manage to impress you in parts and pieces. The editing of the film could have been a little more tauter. The film's music barely lingers post the rolling of end-credits.

If you are looking for a glimpse of Sunny Deol's angry man going full throttle on action then Blank could cheer you up a bit. The rest wouldn't miss much by skipping it. I am going with 2.5 stars.
