800 Review: We have seen many biopics on Indian cricketers like M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Azhar, Shabaash Mithu and others. Now, a biopic on Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralidaran has been made. Titled 800, the movie is directed by M.S. Sripathy and stars Madhurr Mittal as Muralidaran. It is a Tamil film, but has been dubbed and released in various languages including Hindi. We watch the movie in Hindi, so is 800 a perfect tribute to Muralidaran? Find out in our review below...

Muttiah Muralidaran's grandfather and grandmother were Tamilians from India who shifted to Sri Lanka during British Raj to work in tea estates. Now, his family has been staying in Sri Lanka, but as they are Tamilians they have to face a lot of things there. Muralidaran's family put him in a hostel since childhood, but more than studies, he is interested in cricket. The movie then moves forward and showcases the cricketer's journey.

M.S. Sripathy has shown Murali's journey chapter wise. From how his childhood was to the matches he played and finally, how he got the record of 800 wickets. The movie starts off very well, and the way issues of Tamilians and Sri Lankans are shown, it will keep you hooked. However, after a very good start the movie starts dipping a bit. It picks up will in the second half and the climax has been shot wonderfully.

When you watch a movie based on a cricketer, the scenes featuring cricket matches should be the highlight. But, that doesn't happen here and that's one of the negative elements of the film. The only cricket match that gives you an adrenaline rush is the climax one where Murali is going to take his 800th wicket.

Talking about performances, Madhurr Mittal as done a good job as Muttiah Muralidaran. He gets into the skin of the character and also looks like Murali. Veteran actor Nassar plays a very pivotal role in the film, and he is as usual wonderful in his part. Mahima Nambiar doesn't get much scope to perform and even her chemistry with Madhurr is not great.

Overall, 800 has its flaws but it is a perfect tribute to Muttiah Muralidaran. If you have been his fan, then it's a must watch for you.
